I agree, the colours on the old one looked a bit dull so I threw in some reds and purples and upped the contrast.

I love the lines and shading but the palette seems pretty poor to my eyes.

An interesting style, and well done! my only crit is the tail-- the large shiny patch at the back of the tail looks wrong (plasticy) -- you elaborate the line on one side (the little wiggly bit) but do not on the other side. it would be best if you did.
