As chaos consumes the world every day, the only way to get away is to smoke a jay.

word to the entire thing!

breathingsand (Level 3 Enforcer) at 9/8/2007 2:45:18 PM
really interesting background. I love to see when people use unique dithering techniques.

it's so cool...the blocky sky just works :o and the other stuff is also good

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 12/7/2006 4:26:19 PM
btw - i skimmed through the page just now, so nevermind the animation part ;)  Though it doesnt take forever to finish on my screen, it's still kind of show.. i think, it's odd.  Especially since the smoke animation seems to go fast enough, but the arm movements are slower.  Maybe that part was intended after all.

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 12/7/2006 4:21:08 PM

hm. I thought the main goal was to show peace and serenity (seeing as it's escaping chaos)

but anywho, I didn't read through all the replies before me, just wanted to say I like this - it's fresh like you said, but I don't like the animation of the arm  - it seems to be in slo-mo, and I don't know..  if it were crisper and more exact it'd look better, imho.  The smoke is fine though

FlyGuy (Level 6 Made) at 12/3/2006 12:29:25 PM
Hehe..Thanks..Ya I tried to think of something fresh and new... Where lighting was all wacky. I realize that there is light coming from the bottom, yet the background light is coming from the top. I just thought in this piece chaos was the main goal.. Hopefully I reached that goal.

Wow, a new style of art! Incredible

neota (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 11/23/2006 10:39:18 PM
Whatever you used to save the gif has already optimized it, so only a tiny part of the image actually changes.

The glitch you describe probably comes from your particular browser. I'm using Firefox 1.5 on Linux and it displays ok. Having it on your desktop would be equivalent to viewing it in IE.
It's possible that whatever version of IE you have installed suffers too much from abject silliness to interpret PJ's CSS stylesheet properly. CSS is notoriously badly-treated by IE.

I really dont know much about the animations...but that whole picture is animated, not just the guy. I didnt take an animated guy and place him on a still shot...I took each frame the whole thing and started the animation..I think its 30 frames long.

But the thing is, every time it animates for me on my desktop..its fine, but right when I look at it on pixeljoint...there are huge white lines that go down the animation..really slow, and the animation takes at least 5 minutes to finish through.

Any suggestions?

neota (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 11/22/2006 10:58:16 PM
That's far from slow. Gif animations are undemanding enough to display at full speed on a 66mhz 486, unless they're improbably huge.

FlyGuy (Level 6 Made) at 11/22/2006 4:39:10 PM

Like I said, this computer is very slow. I have onboard graphics, and a Pentium 2 processor (and yes ladies and gents, its a card you slide into the board, not even a processor that you clip in like the new fancy 64bits and regular AMD's)

I have 128mb of SD ram...i dont know much else about hte computer, just that it was given to me years ago from my dad. I dont have any reason to upgrade except to maybe see GIF animations smoother

neota (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 11/22/2006 4:11:28 PM
The choppiness of a GIF animation depends mainly on the size of the changing area. Since it's so small an area, any choppiness suggests a problem with your GIF optimizer (or browser).

FlyGuy (Level 6 Made) at 11/21/2006 7:23:02 PM
Thank you. I dont smoke anymore...But there is something very artistic about the silohete* (spelling) of a smoking man.

Jason_c_o (Level 1 Depressed) at 11/21/2006 6:04:27 PM
Though I'm not a smoker, I really liked this piece.

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) at 11/21/2006 1:18:48 PM
Sweet little animation, though it took me some time to notice it - the background really steals some atention...

FlyGuy (Level 6 Made) at 11/21/2006 1:12:29 PM

Chaos means "no sense"

I know the colors are all different, I didnt want to have 1 set of color for lighting. That would defeat the purpouse of a chaotic world if there was order.

He is escaping...GIVE HIM A BREAK! :)

Scruffs (Level 6 Made) at 11/21/2006 12:55:02 PM

err....=. i keep doing that

i wanted to add make it greenish or blue to fit the lighting on the tree and guy and tree

Scruffs (Level 6 Made) at 11/21/2006 12:53:07 PM
looks nice but the bg colour makes absolutely no sense.

chanfan (Level 1 Thug) at 11/21/2006 1:32:07 AM
I love the animation and the way you shaded the tree and the drug addict :) Very nice!

bilbofrodotolkien (Level 2 Hired Gun) at 11/20/2006 11:51:56 PM
I'm agree with all of this PIXART! (evenmore the explain...) well done to my advice, keep on!

FlyGuy (Level 6 Made) at 11/20/2006 6:37:28 PM

I could make it better, it would load alot slower though, since its such a long animation..

animations that are simple are easiest to make smooth, but since its a GIF image, the more frames i would put in it, the choppier or slower it would run on peoples computers if they didnt have good machines. I use a horrible computer, and it looks very butchered for me. I just kind of wanted to get the feel of a man casually smoking a blunt.. Not necessarily the super smooth motions.

Thanks for the feedback...ill try to shorten up my animations next time

skeddles (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 11/20/2006 5:03:58 PM
the animation is very skippy. dont know how you could make it better though....
