I've finished my arguably hardest exam, and there is a rather large gap to the next one, having a long time away from the art of pixels decided to make this. It's more of a how-rusty-did-I-get piece rather than a look-at-me-I-can-pixel-well piece.

What do you mean? Like ambient lighting? Don't think that would work so well since I don't want the lil' gumball to be shiny, I don't even know what it is but I'm pretty sure that if it were real it wouldn't be shiny :P I see what you mean about the pillow shading though, will keep it in mind when/if I do another piece.
