Another not very creative picture... the girl is copied from a photograph by Gérald Petit I found in a magazine, and the background is based on a couple of postcards...

320x256, 16 colours

Not bad!!! Very good.

Oho... I first saw your work on a gbc demo (is that what it's called?) emulated on a s60 phone :)
And, I must say, I like the style, especially the texturing and low-color-great-result approach :)
congrats for the TPA ;)

Thanks all for the positive comments, much appreciated!

mrduke: Yes, I work as a video game artist, initially doing pixel art but 3D stuff now.
ThereIsNoCure: I agree about the use of reference, that's why I don't regard those pictures too highly because of the little creativity they involve. But I do think it's useful to improve one's techniques and you always learn something, as you need to study the reference very closely. They're more a technique showcase ultimately.

the bandana is amazing! ;)

Mooooolto bello l'effetto della pelle. complimenti! anzi, complimentoni!

I adore the background. Nice character aswel, and an interesting way to texture the face. I think her face is a bit flat in general though... i don't think it's too much, but it bugs me. Extremely nice work however.

Equinoxx (Level 3 Stalker) at 11/26/2006 2:24:47 PM
wow that shading is spot on seeing it's copied from a picture this might be a moot point, but I don't really like the harp indent in her upperlip. the background looks reall sweet as well btw.

DawnSierra (Level 1 Rookie) at 11/26/2006 8:21:14 AM

I love the little imperfections in her face and the texture of the cloth on her head is really beautiful. I'm amazed at how so few colors can go so far..

Remarkable job...

That hair/headband totally rocks my socks, plus you've been able to transmit such an feel! I adore it!

Wow, love this work, and only in 16colors! Very good work, 6/6 and favourite

Really reminds me of HL2, & the girl reminds me of Alyx though it is clearly not her (at first I thought, perhaps, that was what the reference was). Awesome clouds & environment. The building is really cool too. I disagree perhaps with the trees in the background a bit; some of them seem to lack definition. But that is a minor disagreement with a really cool piece.

Really, really cool. The dithering is perfect.

Always been a huge fan of this piece, copy or no copy, glad to see you upload it here. :)

Jumpseri (Level 1 Rookie) at 11/23/2006 11:25:57 PM
Like your all pictures this is really good.
I love the shading. Yes it remainds me too of some kinda future novel.

EyeCraft (Level 3 Stalker) at 11/23/2006 7:54:33 PM
I agree that the execution and technique is just remarkable, but I don't the the stark difference between the woman and the background, they don't seem to congeal convincingly to me. Still, it's beautiful work.

Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) at 11/23/2006 5:31:57 PM
I'd have to say I like the background more than anything else in this, very nice.

ThereIsNoCure (Level 11 Godfather) at 11/23/2006 3:59:42 PM
References aside, I love the mood set, inspired me to start work on a two color piece.  You should really rely less on references, your execution is top-notch.

mrduke (Level 1 Rookie) at 11/23/2006 3:39:58 PM
This picturewould fit in a novel I read, a dark future, abbandoned cities...The book title is "mimers brunn" by Maria Larsson. It's in swedish and I dont know it's translated to english......You're a pro master of pixelart! Do you make a living of it?

Toby (Level 3 Stalker) at 11/23/2006 12:48:59 PM
I like the contrast in this piece, a colorful face versus the gray gloomy background, beauty and destruction if you may. I'm also digging the skin texture and overall style.
