Another not very creative picture... the girl is copied from a photograph by Gérald Petit I found in a magazine, and the background is based on a couple of postcards...

320x256, 16 colours

Hearts, Stars and Horseshoes, Clovers and bl...

Only Hearts and Stars.... OK

Wonderful effect you have done with the skin. I like to think the stars and hearts signify the magic and beauty of people contrasted with the dark and decaying world we are born into.

Thank you for sharing this piece, exocet.

 Tocante! =D

naresh (Level 1 Gangster) @ 11/15/2010 01:44

face taxures are so good..........

carrion (Level 6 Made) @ 9/15/2010 11:20

5/5 for the 16 colors pallete. I'm a not a big fan of copying ladies faces anymore ;) but this one is impresive.

Jabber (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 4/10/2010 21:03

Wow! I love the almost grainy appearance of it. The texture of her skin looks very real... in general she's an excellent piece of realism, the marks under her eyes are great.

varuks (Level 1 Rookie) @ 2/9/2010 14:49

cool! apocaliptic! o noh... wait... thats what a citty is like!

Ambient (Level 6 Major) @ 11/18/2009 19:45

Wow, I love it! Background reminds me of that 2mile sniping roost from CoD4 though.

chrstman (Level 1 Rookie) @ 12/21/2006 13:48
Not bad!!! Very good.

Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 12/17/2006 16:12
Oho... I first saw your work on a gbc demo (is that what it's called?) emulated on a s60 phone :)
And, I must say, I like the style, especially the texturing and low-color-great-result approach :)
congrats for the TPA ;)

exocet (Level 6 Major) @ 11/28/2006 04:59

Thanks all for the positive comments, much appreciated!

mrduke: Yes, I work as a video game artist, initially doing pixel art but 3D stuff now.
ThereIsNoCure: I agree about the use of reference, that's why I don't regard those pictures too highly because of the little creativity they involve. But I do think it's useful to improve one's techniques and you always learn something, as you need to study the reference very closely. They're more a technique showcase ultimately.

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 11/27/2006 19:11
the bandana is amazing! ;)

Plunk (Level 1 Rookie) @ 11/27/2006 11:46
Mooooolto bello l'effetto della pelle. complimenti! anzi, complimentoni!

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 11/27/2006 10:56
I adore the background. Nice character aswel, and an interesting way to texture the face. I think her face is a bit flat in general though... i don't think it's too much, but it bugs me. Extremely nice work however.

Equinoxx (Level 3 Stalker) @ 11/26/2006 14:25
wow that shading is spot on seeing it's copied from a picture this might be a moot point, but I don't really like the harp indent in her upperlip. the background looks reall sweet as well btw.

DawnSierra (Level 1 Rookie) @ 11/26/2006 08:21

I love the little imperfections in her face and the texture of the cloth on her head is really beautiful. I'm amazed at how so few colors can go so far..

Remarkable job...

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) @ 11/26/2006 02:44
That hair/headband totally rocks my socks, plus you've been able to transmit such an feel! I adore it!

silent sniper (Level 1 Depressed) @ 11/25/2006 09:31

nice, but its just missing... something... cant put my finger on it...

matriax (Level 5 Sniper) @ 11/25/2006 01:25
Wow, love this work, and only in 16colors! Very good work, 6/6 and favourite

THE KAPPTIN (Level 5 Captain) @ 11/24/2006 14:32
Really reminds me of HL2, & the girl reminds me of Alyx though it is clearly not her (at first I thought, perhaps, that was what the reference was). Awesome clouds & environment. The building is really cool too. I disagree perhaps with the trees in the background a bit; some of them seem to lack definition. But that is a minor disagreement with a really cool piece.

Huggkruka (Level 1 Rookie) @ 11/24/2006 07:40
Really, really cool. The dithering is perfect.

finite (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 11/24/2006 07:04
Always been a huge fan of this piece, copy or no copy, glad to see you upload it here. :)

Jumpseri (Level 1 Rookie) @ 11/23/2006 23:26
Like your all pictures this is really good.
I love the shading. Yes it remainds me too of some kinda future novel.

EyeCraft (Level 3 Stalker) @ 11/23/2006 19:55
I agree that the execution and technique is just remarkable, but I don't the the stark difference between the woman and the background, they don't seem to congeal convincingly to me. Still, it's beautiful work.

Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 11/23/2006 17:32
I'd have to say I like the background more than anything else in this, very nice.

cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 11/23/2006 16:00
References aside, I love the mood set, inspired me to start work on a two color piece.  You should really rely less on references, your execution is top-notch.

mrduke (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 11/23/2006 15:40
This picturewould fit in a novel I read, a dark future, abbandoned cities...The book title is "mimers brunn" by Maria Larsson. It's in swedish and I dont know it's translated to english......You're a pro master of pixelart! Do you make a living of it?

Toby (Level 3 Stalker) @ 11/23/2006 12:49
I like the contrast in this piece, a colorful face versus the gray gloomy background, beauty and destruction if you may. I'm also digging the skin texture and overall style.
