These are russian folk characters before christianity, sort of nature spirits.=)

Top-left:
"Chert" or "bes". Actually he has lots of names. Evil minded troublemaker, lived around human enviroment - family problem, illnesses, cattles diseases, murrain and much more - all blamed on him. In later christian concept has been merged down with a satan.

Bottom-left:
"Leshij" - forrest spirit, usually unfriendly to mankind, if run into human could makes him lost in the woods or lead him in a swamp.

Right:
"Borovik" - pine tree forrest spirit, most of the time quiet loyal to men, if they behaive respectively - do not litter or hurt trees for no reason. Otherwise does the same as above. Helping peasants  find  mushrooms by moving around from one spawn to another and whistling.

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/6/2007 08:01
Many, i guess=) These three pieces aren't  ment to be together, I put it them on one canvas just to make single entry. Well, since they are in a same spot now  pallete could be optimazed for them to share. Cant tell for sure how many - i'm not home. I think about 24 each.=)

user
skeddles (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 1/6/2007 05:41
how many colors are there?

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 12/28/2006 02:45
Biffo, that concept well known pretty much to every kid in Russia, at least in my generation =) There is a  very detailed written discription for each character in folk stories - hard to miss.=)

user
Biffo (Level 1 Rookie) @ 12/27/2006 19:43

This is flippen awesome.  Did you draw the concept from another artists reference, or did you visualize this?  You're pixeling skills are top tier pal.
