the tree is gorgeous. i like this things that hang down from it.

!CE-9 (Level 1 Thug) at 9/11/2007 12:10:18 PM
pure beauty. the tree and the water win the internets; the rocks (below the ground) look too --bubbly? though...  (of course I'd be happy if I could've pulled it a quarter this nice)

immediate fav & all.

Really nice mockup and tutorial. What is that program you're using?

Frost (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 5/13/2007 6:01:39 PM
I love that tree. This picture reminds me of the game Flashback. Must be the style of the character.

happip (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 3/30/2007 2:55:20 PM
I love the tree :D the color scheme makes it look from another planet o. o

Skurwy87 (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 2/1/2007 12:33:13 AM
I had a flashback of Flashback. 4/5 for the piece*, and 5/5 for the PRICELESS video tutorial. You're BAD! :)

* everything's OK (esp. the tree), but that pitch black distracts me.

iSTVAN (Level 8 Cannibal) at 1/2/2007 6:07:07 AM
It reminds me a little of Jill of the jungle- only more detailed tiles. Might have already been said, but the outline of the rock seems slightly harder edged than other outlines. The use of bright green in one of the clouds is also fairly distracting. My favourite bits are the birds and the trees. Shall d/l the tut when I'm next home.

Bob_Jones (Level 2 Peon) at 12/10/2006 11:13:34 AM
That tree is brilliant. I dont really like the amount of black in the ground tiles, just too much in my opinion.

flurdoing (Level 1 Rookie) at 12/9/2006 7:10:32 PM
This totally reminds me of 'flashback' also. That was a great game, and tihs is some really nice picture. Sega Genesis ftw!

Nevanda (Level 1 Jukyu) at 12/7/2006 6:38:12 AM
Looking little like Flashback :)

Emanu (Level 3 Chief) at 12/5/2006 4:28:55 AM
looks more flashback than another world to me, but im loving it. =)

milkyjon (Level 4 Murderer) at 12/4/2006 8:01:32 AM
yeah I love this, mainly because it reminds me of possibly my fav game of all time, anotherworld. Love the moody atmosphere youve created. And for one and a half hours work its outstanding. thumbs up.

thor (Level 1 Depressed) at 12/4/2006 5:13:20 AM
Great mockup. The outlines on the single rocks are ugly though, it is contrasting with the rest of the scene, and they blend in too well with background.

But lovely mockup, reminds me too of Flashback and a bit of another world.

Helm (Level 5 Detective) at 12/4/2006 4:58:00 AM
Adarias: at the time a tint for the blackness didn't occur to me, I agree a cool blue or a purple would probably be better than pure void. If I were still working on this I'd put it in, but I won't 'cause if I do then I'll feel like putting in slopes and fixing other stuff... too much for now.

Everybody, thanks for the kind words.

Souly (Level 4 Murderer) at 12/4/2006 3:55:15 AM
I saw this video earlier.
I really focused on how you did the tree.

Wonderful work Helm. :B

chanfan (Level 7 Underboss) at 12/3/2006 10:39:48 PM
I love it. It reminds me of prince of persia but in a jungle world :D It would rock to see some animations and such of the dude in the picture. Fav!

Khris (Level 1 Thug) at 12/3/2006 10:36:07 PM
Yeah, the game you're thinking of is Flashback. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashback:_The_Quest_for_Identity

I instantly thought of that when I saw this, at least.

brod'tam (Level 2 Quiet One) at 12/3/2006 10:32:16 PM
The whole thing is wonderful ! The tree upleft blows my mind

brod'tam (Level 2 Quiet One) at 12/3/2006 10:30:45 PM
...was it the game named "Flashback" ? ...that's what it reminds me but I ain't sure

7even (Level 8 Guerrilla) at 12/3/2006 9:49:37 PM
Out of This World A.K.A. Another World? Well, at least it's what reminds me 8D

sedgemonkey (Level 10 Master Sniper) at 12/3/2006 9:34:00 PM
Currently dl-ing the video. Can't wait to see it.

Ack, what is the videogame that this so reminds me of?  It was the one of the first games to have really beautiful, fluid animation. Grrr, it's going to drive me nuts.

Fool (Level 6 SWAT) at 12/3/2006 8:33:05 PM
That's one impressive video tut (a liitle music won't hurt=)) I like how you work with colors, on a fly, looks very easy.=) Black though creates a hole rather then deep shadow.

macula (Level 6 Hitman) at 12/3/2006 6:12:13 PM
Wow very nice work. I like the colors and shading.

Adarias (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 12/3/2006 5:44:18 PM
makes me think of fglashback

only crit is the black filler, id have prefered if you had taken a few moments to pick a color that would give it life and atmosphere instead of the black which drains from both.  still, is a very nice work and the tutideo is quite nice

Helm (Level 5 Detective) at 12/3/2006 4:12:07 PM
haha yes, sorry, 1 hour, 35 minutes. I slapped myself.

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 12/3/2006 4:09:33 PM
Wow. Looks great. I'm liking the tiling action of the cliff/land. I don't really know if I'm allowed to crit this, seeing as how you only took 1:35 minutes to work on it( Seeing as how I haven't seen the video yet, does that mean 1 hour and 35 minutes, or 1 minute and 35 seconds?....if it's the latter, I'm going to slap you...) Eh screw it, I'll call it like I a see 'em.
Okie-doke, I love the detailing of the environment and the simple background, but the character sprites just aren't doing it for me. They seem kinda flat and out of place.( not flat in sprite terms, but flat in character. What? So I'm anal, gimme a break already.) Also, on the two last bottom pieces of land tiles towards the bottom right side of the cliff seem out of place. Maybe switching the tile on the left of the aforementioned, with one of the almost black/barely dithered tiles might make it blend in more. Also, I'm diggin' the tree. Very Bonzai-ish, though I'm sure that is not the exact type...
