There are many pirates but there are none like Davy Jones! My first attempt actually to create anything like this. So far I've stucked to pretty basic stuff (see earlier work) but last night when I was just fooling around trying to come up with something to do, I thought of Davy Jones. Since the character is so cool I wanted to have a realistic look of him and you can see the result yourself. Took me about 3 or 4 hours to finish him. While I consider this piece finished, I might add legs and the rest of arms too since it was original meant as a fighting sprite... sort of (hence the small image). I actually did add his claw but without the rest of the body, it looked weird, so I took it out. Hope you like it!

No worries about the butcher-thingy. Kinda lost his look but it's the coloring that is the important thing. Very, very helpful I must say. I'll definitely look at this and see if I can do something similar. My version really feels... overdone now :)

Here's a semi-quick edit I did of your piece to show you a more efficient way of using colors. I kind of butchered everything about yours (I feel bad) but hopefully it's helpful none-the-less.

Very intersting and helpful input you gave since I pretty much have nothing to go on but my own "instincs" on this piece. If I decide to make a larger sprite out of it I will take into consideration what you said about the colors and reduce the number.

The design of the character is done pretty well, however the hat seems to have some inconsistent lines about it.

The most important issue however, are the colors. There are far too many, and they are all far too close together. Try using higher contrast and less colors and you'll be a lot better off. The effect you have achieved could've been done with 8 colors, probably 6.
