It's a WIP, you're getting pwned, end of story. Get out of your doller mindset and wake up to the real world, we won't pat you on the back and award you with cookies for using the big kid potty.
It doesn't matter if you ASKED for C+C. Pixel art communities are not the same as Dolling communities, we're going to give C+C on everything because that's how people get better and take art seriously, by listening to critique and improving, not by hearing "OMG KAWAII" five million times.
She's not calling your picture ugly, she's calling pillowshading ugly, which is what you did. Regardless of whether it's ugly or not, it's not how light falls on an object, unless it's a pillow, hence the name.
I love it when people post half assed stuff and then have the audacity to talk about what "REAL art" is. If you're really serious about your art form, you'll want to improve. You'll want to portray figures accurately and decently.
And if you aren't making art to appeal to people, why do you give two shits what Dra_chan thinks? You DO care. If you didn't you would have responded to her C+C like such: "I disagree but thank you for your suggestions." See how simple that would have been. Instead you're getting extremely defensive and taking things too personally.
Now, why don't you open your mind a little and give Dra's advice a shot instead of defending your lack of work by calling it a "style"? If you're confused, ask for clairification, I'm sure she'll be happy to give it to you. Take the time you're using arguing about how yours is a style beyond all others, and use it to work harder.
Its one thing if I had asked for C+C but I clearly didn't and I didn't post this in the WIP section of the forum because I didn't want to as well. I don't always respond in a defensive mannor its just that you where kind of rude. I mean I don't post comments on peoples art that they spent time and effort on telling them how it looks as if they half-assed it or that their "style" as you so called it is ugly I don't care if the majority of artist don't like it, thats not even the point of art, you don't make your art just to apeal to a majority of people or anyone for that matter do you?. In REAL art communitues people try and encourage eachother and use "Conrtructive Criticisum/critique" not lets point out what someone already said or make a short post that doesn't do anything for anyone like "Not enough detail.." which is sooo helpful thank you Mar.
It's really good to hear you hope to get better, but you always respond in the defensive. I have seen that in other entries as well. Pointing out things that could be improved is not harsh demeaning bashing, it's simply c+c. So sorry if i'm not the sweetest person around who will sugar the words so the artist won't get "offended", but in REAL art communities that's how things are, people will be honest, which in my opinion is much better than just go ass-kissing a la Deviantart.
And I didn't think you drew the face because it was more carefuly done and looks better than the rest of the piece, which may mean that you have the skill but you were just lazy to work on the rest some more. I called the technique you used, pillowshading, ugly, because in not just my opinion, but in the majority's of artists as well, it should be avoided. And about the "not shading as everybody" comment, I never said that. If you look at the galleries in this site, everybody pixels differently, but hey, even the bests artists out there accept critisism form others in order to improve. You can achieve your own style, your personal touch, but still using adecuate techiques of the many there are. And again, my hobby is not to go around making people feel bad, I'm just learning this stuff myself. Take the c+c to improve your weak points, and keep working.
Wow such a sweet person you are! For your information if you go to the bases site you will see its not shaded and it has NO FACE so I did infact do the face. Also I would like to thank you for taking your time to try and make me feel like this whole peice is crap (pointing out every detail), sorry you didn't succeed and that your harsh demeaning comment didn't work. I'm sorry my shading is "ugly" I'm not the best artist but I hope to get better. And about the sky, its based on a picture I was looking at at the time, the sky was lit that way so thats how I made it. Frankly I think that not everyone has to shade the same way. Also I don't expect any comments and I really wouldn't think anyone would say they loved it since I myself know its not that good.
Kiddo, I hope you are not expecting comments such as OMG CUTEEEE I LOVE IT only. (but it seems that way)
This piece really LOOKS like a WIP, even if for you it isn't. The praise you received is for her face, which you didn't draw, you don't say thanks, you make clear what parts you did draw.
Mountains: shading is just random lines all over it. Soil: MSPAINT spray tool? Tank: harsh lines, jaggy lineart, poor shading. Girls outfit: dark tones next to the lineart and degrading to light tones is called pillowshading. It's ugly. Hair: ok I guess Sky: should go from dark to light
You should read some tutorials, and post in the WIP forum to get useful c+c.
This si more like a work in progress the skin tones are selected to close to each other they dont really make a difference, also your pillow shading. But I'd say your of to a good start.
