I'm not really satisfied with this. Was in the middle of coloring when I realized how crappy the palette is. Also wanted to do some dithering, but knowing how untskilled I am, decided not to ruin it any more. Anyway, I wanted to meet the deadline, so here is my submission for the weekly challenge.

Adarias: Battle Chess? Crossed my mind too (Setzer mentioned it on the forums), that's the main reason why I wanted to change the palette. Wobbly cock! HA!

ilkke: I planned to dither the table only, some softer shadows and shading might have done it good.

You don't need dithering, it's quite ok like it is.

hah, awesome.  reminds me of the old game i had.....forget what it was called.  the one where queens threw lightning....

i like the stlye of it, which the rook was a little less organic so it wouldnt be so much lke a wobbly cock

Very nice. I like the way the rook is contorted, also pleasing highlighting there. I wouldn't worry about the colours.

The idea alone makes this one of the week's best entries. On that alone it will get my vote. The pixelling is not as bad as you think and the colors while not the best choices work well.
