Lovely shapes and textures! I wish it were a bit less monochromatic, though--sliding the shadows more towards blue or purple might give it a bit more depth. Very nice work, however.

geez, it's great -- although, after the preview I had expected more density to it, like more foreground? it's beautiful nevertheless, and I love those trees & lians. 5f

Looks like it would fit in a beatemup, Maybe some sort of Dynasty-Warriors themed game?
It's really great.

It's great! Just one crit - the shiny spot on the knot/hole in the wood looks wrong. You've established that the bark is fairly matte, which means that it  will get large diffuse highlights if at all, rather than small tight highlights. I recommend just using the lightest green used elsewhere on the trunk for the highlight.

I just can say that it's awesome with 16 colors!

Lawrence (Level 10 Operative) @ 3/27/2007 03:23
This is excellent. I am curious though, should there really be a shadow on the side of the trees which faces the clearing? Shouldn't that be where most of the light is? With the misty background lit up as much as it is, It looks like there's a clearing over there somewhere instead, despite the visible background trees. I can think of reasons for this but I was just curious to know.

I love it =)! You do the treetops like me :P, not too detailed...it would be too much work

user
Josiah (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 3/26/2007 21:39

I really love this, it all looks great, love the texturing, shading, and detail, AND that you only used 16 colors

user
Fool (Level 6 SWAT) @ 3/26/2007 21:13
Awesome woods. =) Personally I would prefer a little darker on a a back for more moody appearance, but exelent as is.=)

user
d-p (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 3/26/2007 16:17
Impressive work at 16 colors. Nice color choice and tree impression.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/26/2007 15:41
Really great BG scene. I mostly admire how you restrained yourself (cept for the vine) and kept it simplistic. I <3 it.

user
Biffo (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/26/2007 15:15
Love it.  Really lush for 16 colors.

user
jmgandalf (Level 5 Detective) @ 3/26/2007 14:55
Awesome, this reminds me a lot of some LucasArt games backgrounds ;)

user
Necky (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/26/2007 09:12
Thanks for the nice comments guys Now I could say that the vine is the way it is for some artsy fartys reason, but alas it's just sloppiness on my behalf I'll take a look at it and clean it up, thanks for the tip

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 3/26/2007 09:09
Wow. You guys here make me so jeolous over how well you can make backgrounds. I love how simple the technique is, but how detailed it looks to the naked eye. My only question is why is the vine detailed more, in the part wrapped around the tree, than the part of it closest to us?

user
verfum (Level 4 Deputy) @ 3/26/2007 05:08

Nice GFX!  Love the atmosphere it gives, and the tree colour palette and texture. I'd like to see a character in the foreground - like an up to date Ghouls and Ghosts knight.
