No, no, an actual skull would look tacky, methinks. It's muchly overdone. I much prefer the sublimination of "What is that...ooohhh..."
As for what inspired me, I was just doodling one of my mutanty doodles one day in Spanish class and came up with him. Scan, line, pixel. Y' know how it goes.
You'll see him again somewhere, I assure you.
