Imho they are neither very readable nor beautiful. If you want to make them more readable you maybe should't use such darke shades in the lower areas. Also you're color ramps seem pretty boring (no hue- change). Also they don't seem very metallic, I think you should take a closer look of pictures with metallic elemts and study the shading.
