The background didn't take that long compared to the whole picture... about a day or so. Most of the time was spent on the wings.

Looks like a painting, the background is wonderful, because on closer inspection it's actually quite simple, but it's really effective. And she's pro. Only thing i'm not keen on is that scythe thing, the brown areas look too furry i think.

Beautiful colours, and all. Must've taken ages, deserves a top-spot.

As often I am hated for my crit regardless here it is:

The stick thingy makes the pic look flat. It feels to me it should of been angled more towards the viewer. :P Also the hair IMO should go behind the wing.
