Utada Hikaru :: Pixel Art Detail

Please finish this one! I really would like to see it ready.

The hands lack form, and the face is rough, mostly from the use of lines instead of hard shade and that combining with too many shades too close together. Wasted alot of colors for such a low range image.

Seems like too many colors. Also, some subtle colors in the darker shades just above the nose. Looks like you nudged part of the image since there is a vertical skin streak. Your skin outline color appears to be the same all throughout the work, and that could have been adjusted to improve the realism. Anti aliasing on this piece doesn't make sense. The anti aliasing shades don't appear to be used much outside of blending similar colors together. Eye outlines are very harsh, like too strong an eyeliner, but the eyes remain soft looking in comparison. I don't mean to discourage you, but you should try to learn the ropes of pixel art and tackle something like this again.

I like this piece a lot, she looks kinda scared and insecure, but cute.

And 'gambit99', so what if she is taking her top off, not that it looks like it to me, but if she were. that would be no bad thing!! anyway I have seen the picture that inspired this piece and thats how it looks.

I get what you're doing with the shirt. Wired magazing employs that technique a lot.

As for the cropping... it sucks that it's cropped that way.

Yeah, it is tightly cropped because I used that picture as a referance. And yes, it is still a WIP.

I plan to expand it out later on (since I only used the photo for the lineart and it shouldn't be hard to continue it). I'll add some more shading to the hands and probably some better shading to the shirt (there IS shading), because right now it's purely pillow shaded.

The shirt may look rushed, but it's done like that on purpose. Has anybody seen the anime Gankutsou? Anybody? No? Oh well... Instead of simply coloring the characters' clothing and hair, they use various texture patterns to create something that will amaze you, but will be something you have to get used to. I hope to use this style some more.

I think I addressed the hands, but it was indeed a last minute thing. I finished them with the shirt in 5 minutes.

My guess for the tightly cropping is that its for an avatar or something. That or its all the reference pic showed. I'm assuming you used a reference, cos she's meant to be a J-pop singer (whatever that is!)

Oh yeah, about the cropping... I forgot to mention this first time around. Is there some reason why it's so tightly cropped? I'd love to see the left side of her hair.

fantastic stuff Dejital! Love the eyes, lips and nose. You've used a lot of colours for the skin but it seems to work well. Im not too fond of the outline of the hair where it meets the face, it doesnt seem necessary.

Like sedge said, the hands seem a little flat, and to me a little demented. Looks like a last minute thing actually. The shirt also looks rushed, but I like it! It addes style.

Overall, terrific stuff, especially the expression.
