Well, as I said before, it was a request from my teacher to do it that way, I like using a reference as just that, and not something to work off of, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway. But yeah, I definitely agree about that with challenges (And it took too long to do it this way anyway, so I'm not going to bother doing it this way again).
I haven't really thought about posting the reference images along with the pixel art, so I will do that for all future submissions that I've used a reference on.
I think jamon can see that no color reduction took place. Maybe you did pick some colors off the image and you did pixel over the photo, and some people just don't think there's any merit, fun or creativity in that, myself included. However, if you want to learn to draw that way, be my guest. I see that this is not your first image based on a photo, and frankly I don't mind, just make sure you don't enter challenges with this kind of work as I think that would be highly unfair towards people who are doing their best to make art from their heads.
Also you (and everyone else) should ALWAYS post reference for your works, don't make people ask you.
The big problem I think is that right now PJ is brimming with all sorts of dubious 'art' and that's why sometimes ppl tend to overreact. Hopefully the newly formed MOD SQUAD(tm) will sort things out a bit.
Yeah, I think I should add more AA to it. I'll test it out on Tuesday and see how that goes.
As for the "No comment!", fine, I don't really care if you believe me. I'm just wondering if it's really much different than scanning one of your own artworks and pixelling over it. That's basically what I did, except with a photo I took instead of a drawing.
In some places the lineart looks jaggy. You should use AA. And, remember that you must post the reference photo in your description, you haven't done some other of your works.
You're assuming that I just did a color reduction and some minor edits? I did work directly off of the photo, but no color reduction took place. I outlined the cars and the building, removed the colors there and put in my own. It was pretty time consuming, so no, I don't feel bad about it. I would if it were not my photo, or if I did take an easy way out. This is the only one I've done it for, after that I thought it was way too time consuming so I have never done it since.
I know where you're coming from, I'd have not done it myself, but it was for a school project and my teacher told me to experiment with that for this particular piece (Working off of the photo instead of using it as a reference to look off of).
People learn what reference image means! If you cut down number of colors of reference image and after add some of your drawing.... think what are you doing?? is that your art??? how you feel about it???
Want to give some dough back to all those amazing pixel artists? Donations provide prize money for contests, help cover hosting costs and support new initiatives.

Thanks for the comment.
