@Presley - Yeah, the left (her right) breast looks a little flat, now I look at it again. Bear in mind, though, that:
a) with her arms above her head her breasts are going to be lifted and stretched upward, diminishing the shadows underneath.
b) she conforms to a 19th Century French ideal, so her breasts are going to look pretty small by contemporary standards.
Not that I'm trying to make excuses - I think you're probably right. If you look at Adam's edit (below), he's put a fair bit more shading in and she looks generally more 3D.
I may do an edit, but as I've already entered this piece into the competition, there's not much point. I might do a colour version at some point.
Adam - yup, your edit is an improvement. I think. I'm 90% sure your edit is an improvement. Thanks for doing it, anyway - it's always informative to have more accomplished artists point out areas for improvement.
I was wary of letting the dithering spread too much across the body as I wanted to keep the skin smooth and unblemished-looking. But now I see your edit, I think I needn't have worried.
Great work!
Might be personal preference, but a bit more dithering would add some volume to the piece. Here's a quick edit: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/pembroke/pixeljoint/daniel_LaSource.gif - I'm not sure if it is better or not, you might even go further.
Also her left foot looks a little awkward, and the color-choice is a bit boring.
But as I said a great piece overall.
Her face is slightly shorter (?) Or something, in comparison to the original, making her look more... Brusque. Except foer that, I love it! <3
