Second sprite concept for the fighting game I am working on. Thinking of a style change as well before finalizing the design and animating the character. As with my other piece of work, feel free to criticize all you want!

* Character will be going through a redesign.

Khris: Yeah, I'm Xiii. I was mostly just looking at this community, but I decided since I'm going to spriting a lot very soon that I should post my stuff up here to get a lot more criticism. This piece to me is done, the character is going to be redesigned with a different style. I originally wanted him for a different fighter, but I need to redraw him to fit a different vision. That and yeah, I was mostly messing around with different styles (3S lines, KoF Details) and my old thread on SRK actually has a picture of Loc without the abs showing through the shirt, but I thought this looked better and more distinct.

Adam: I really appreciate the time you took to add the selout and change up the colors. They stand out much more, but it's a bit too bright and saturated for me. Might just be me, but I've also looked at some tutorials and also your edit and selout seems to just be kind of dependent on color palette selection or it might just be how I originally sprited the character. I do like some of the minor shading you added which I'll make note of for future references.

I have to admit there are a lot of jaggies, but hopefully I'll be able to overcome that painful issue. I plan to sprite about 15 new characters over the next couple of months while I work on my game so hopefully I can find a way to address that.

3rd time should be the charm if the saying is correct.

Hey. Xiii, right? Welcome to pixeljoint, I remember you from the Monster IRC stuff.

Anyways, at this point, it's a little hard to tell what sort of material the shirt is made out of. If you're going for some sort of skin-tight thing, you should fix the way that at some parts (like where it ends toward the waist) it appears to have space in between itself and the guy's body. And also, toward the top on the shoulders, even a single pixel of width makes the material looks thicker than it might really be. As far as muscle definition, even with the tightest of clothing, it's hard for such deep details to show through and with that amount of depth. Instead, simply imply some of the muscles with a little shadowing.

As far as pixel technique goes, it's a little scruffy. By that, I mean that there are a lot of jaggies and it could be smoothed out. I'll try to make an edit today to address some of the issues. Until then, try to post this up on either the WIP forums here or at pixelation ( http://pixel-arts.org/pixelation ), those guys are a lot better at explaining this sort of stuff than me, I think.

I fooled around with the colors a bit: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/pembroke/pixeljoint/Siky_Loc.gif

Probably not the style you aimed so it might not help, but who knows. Ah yeah, and added some crappy selout too.

I'll look into some selout tutorials. I was having a great deal of trouble with the coloring and shading. I wanted him to have the Freeman kinda look from Garou MOTW, but Loc is no goth. I'll work on it with my future pieces.

Nice lineart. Though I'm not a great fan of the colors, especially the skintones. I'd suggest some selout, but that's just personal preference.

Yeah kinda forgot, I had fixed up and finished off the character, but then photoshop crapped out on me and I didn't know the transparency wasn't saved =_=

Also Krakatoa, I do have a version that doesn't have that stuff, but after looking at SNK's stuff and trying it out, it looked rather good to me. Again, I'm new to spriting, but I'm trying different things to see what looks good and what I can or can't do right now. I don't know, does it really look that strange? SNK sprites have tons of characters with muscle bound clothing and it looks good to me.

If you make the background transparent instead of white, you should be good to go

You can see his abs through his shirt? o.0
