Wow nice, you have dithered, and you have used the grass very creative on the second one! And the big white space is very artistic! Maybe it tells us about... The awesome skills to come!
Hmm.. Maybe its a better idea to not submit lil dudes, crop the image, so it exactly fits, use the origional lil dude colors, be some more creative and look at other lil dudes for example, follow some tutorials for pixel art and make pixel art exept lil dudes and you will be fine..
