Thanx for the nice words on my Sloth, Gas! And congrats, your work is great, too. I'm always thrilled with your gallery! This Natalie art is amazing!

elend (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/17/2007 3:37:29 PM
Wow, really great. Well pixelled and really nice idea. Imho one of your better (if not best) pixelartworks!

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/17/2007 3:53:04 AM
There's no transparency here! The only thing you could take for transparency is the BG. But they were not made with transparency as it adds new colors to the palette.

I'll say that again, I was selecting areas and changing colors.

The method is simple, probably you know what I mean, but I want to be as clear as possible: create a layer to be lightened, choose colors inside this layer, change them. That's it.

The fish was originally painted (2nd step in animation) and then pixelated over it. It is possible to doodle with pencil but I see no difference here since the painting was redrawn pixel by pixel.

iLKke (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 7/17/2007 2:28:15 AM
I see lots of transparency on this pic but I don't have a problem with that.
It IS possible to do things in a more direct manner but to me this piece qualifies as PA easily.

jamon (Level 8 Marshal) at 7/17/2007 1:47:02 AM
I agree with the GAS13 ... i we want to LOOK then on PJ is lot of artist that are hiden behind they GLORY and do the "dirty work ..."

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/16/2007 10:20:28 AM
True. Pixel control is what pixelart is all about. And if I select area and use paint bucket for that area it is the same as if I was changing every pixel manually. There's nothing generated by a program, I just save my time doing it faster than pixel by pixel.

Thanks for sharing opinion on this matter, Skurwy.

Skurwy87 (Level 4 Murderer) at 7/16/2007 9:07:25 AM
imo, as far as you don't use automatic scripts/effects that aren't completely dependent on you (like auto aa, blurred brushes or, god bleshya!, lens flares), this can be called pixel-art.

it's only natural that you can use shortcuts like the filling tool (which isn't that different from selecting areas) and many others, because the work without them would be a damn boring thing -- imagine changing the area hue by recolouring every pixel.

ice9 (Level 1 Gangster) at 7/16/2007 7:07:42 AM
Great palette, I love the shading and the bits of aa are so good too. Just great! :)

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/16/2007 5:15:30 AM
Heh, half of PJ works are not pixelart in this case because most artists adjust colors in the end.

And it's not an effect really :)

Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 7/16/2007 5:11:47 AM
yes its kinda wrong :|

Stickman (Level 4 Deputy) at 7/16/2007 3:59:57 AM
Brilliant work Gas. Great use of colours on the chain links for legs

momovampire (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/16/2007 12:01:00 AM
Close my eyes.... I see this one is going to win the contest!!

The fish really reminds me of the Starstruck demo by The Black Lotus...

exocet (Level 5 Captain) at 7/15/2007 3:17:10 PM
Nice fishy with... things attached to it :)

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/15/2007 12:55:52 PM
What kind of effects? I was not using anything unnatural and I want to make it clear.

There's nothing wrong in selecting areas and changing color for that areas. At least for me. Do you find it wrong?

Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 7/15/2007 8:40:43 AM
well you used photoshop for this... the effects, that is

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/15/2007 2:30:00 AM
Explain yourself.

Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 7/14/2007 3:46:42 PM
idk but this isnt pixelart in my opinion

jamon (Level 8 Marshal) at 7/14/2007 3:19:40 AM
@Gas13   Promotion is great software... when you use brighten darken mode... try to change in setings panel amount of % for that mode...

migoy (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/13/2007 10:11:43 PM
Great dude! good job on the lightings, love it

CircleOfTheDarkOnes (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 7/13/2007 9:34:14 PM
Natalie would be proud.

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/13/2007 2:15:01 PM
Thanks for the nice comments. Appreciate them very much.

jamon, Photoshop 7, as always. I was trying to use Pro Motion's brighten mode being inspired by ilkke in the woods but it was choosing the wrong bright colors so I get back to Photoshop and was changing colors selecting areas :)

Zhou9 (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/13/2007 12:40:21 PM
WOW I would've never derived that from the picture. Beyond words.

Zero Power (Level 2 Peon) at 7/13/2007 6:29:24 AM

Varock Shade (Level 7 Underboss) at 7/13/2007 2:01:37 AM
it looks like a fish with watermines on it... kind of... Dangerous fish with strange head, but a very cool piece, and it could have been the idea behind the original drawing too nice job!

jamon (Level 8 Marshal) at 7/13/2007 1:39:26 AM
Nice looking work!  Im' intrested what kind of software you used for this one...?

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 7/11/2007 6:27:37 PM

philipptr (Level 2 Peon) at 7/11/2007 3:34:52 AM
great work. somehow from the preview I wouldn't have expected it to be from you.. it isn't really your typical style I guess ;) anyways awesome texture and very nice colours! going to be one of the best entries :)

Fool (Level 6 SWAT) at 7/11/2007 3:22:50 AM
Excellent shot, man.=) Looks like Natalie's work is really a good source of inspiration after all.=D

Skurwy87 (Level 4 Murderer) at 7/11/2007 2:30:52 AM
Natalie the Fish or. . . The Inner Depths of Natalie's Consciousness. ;)

I like the feel of the image, it brings on interesting ideas and put the imagination to work -- never thought those few irregular lines would turn into something of this sort. Highly creative! 5/5/f! :D

iLKke (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 7/11/2007 2:05:23 AM
Love the work around the eye!
I'd call the fish Natalie ;D

Also I love it how you tried to see something else in the image, instead of taking it 'literally'.

dich (Level 4 Murderer) at 7/11/2007 12:01:25 AM
Nice work, excellent choice of colors and I love concept-art by Natalie ;)

cassiechihuahua (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/10/2007 11:07:48 PM
this is amazing, I love how you did the background with the seaweed-like texture, and the scale texture is neat, too.

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 7/10/2007 10:45:14 PM
I'll be always here for you.
a suggestion for the title.

Miumau0 (Level 5 Soldier) at 7/10/2007 10:16:11 PM
All I can say is, wow. Scales lights etc, GJ. BG could be more detailed.

klav (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 7/10/2007 7:14:18 PM
damn, nice work. I really like the scales on the fish.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 7/10/2007 7:04:08 PM
I wouldn't worry about when you submit to a challenge, the cream always rises to the top .

E: Natfish or Natalie's Drawing

nvision (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 7/10/2007 7:03:31 PM
Beautiful!  This is a gorgeous interpretation!  I love your colour choices.  I know how you feel about being impatient, as well...I got my entry done over my lunch break and after work, today :p

Josiah (Level 8 Marshal) at 7/10/2007 6:02:03 PM

Whoa, this is really good.

Great job on the texturing on the fish to.

AdamPlays (Level 6 SWAT) at 7/10/2007 4:40:51 PM

The fish has ball bearings attached to it, which I could only assume are used as some kind of reproductive equipment.  Bearing also means to give birth, or natal.  Therefore I would call it a Natalfish or Natalis.  And hey, it sounds like Natalie!

HMC (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 7/10/2007 4:28:51 PM
Amazing. I love how you did the reflection on the underside.

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 7/10/2007 4:11:18 PM
It's good to keep it until the last minute to get more votes but I have no patience. Pixelartist without patience. Nonsense of sorts.

Kobun (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/10/2007 4:07:34 PM
Nice interpretation! and quick too.  its rare to see such a good entry so early

soda (Level 9 Vice President) at 7/10/2007 3:44:33 PM
Wow, woulda never thought of that.  5/5 and what?  Fav?
