i love ur style its unique and cool and its real nice. keep it up :)
nah bball time didn't pass for nyc, even tho Knicks were 10000 times better ten years ago :).
basketball is rather the timeless classic element, instead of outdated classic :)
and in all honesty - I love eboy and their style (and I love pop-culture as well :D). even more, I credit them as the people who initially motivated me as a pixel artist. I think the influence still shows thru :).
you think puma wouldn't go with colors like this? I dunno it seems they usually go with pretty much any colors there are, especially when it comes to shoes :)
the ad campaign also included photo/mixed media illustrations (which y'all can see at my deviantart), which were based on NYC photography, and more closely related to the city itself.
to provide contrast to the photo-based ads, the pixelart ad series were much more freestyle and abstract. no direct references, rather free-flowing vibe.
this particular ad is supposed to catch the vibe of the early 90's, hence the propellerheads, boomboxes, basketball and nintendo pads aand the colors :) quite simple.
as for why pixel-art as illustration style was chosen, it's because:
1) pixel art is apparently linked with old-school in pop-culture, and the campaign was for old-school shoes 2) it's not as widely used, or may I say more exclusive than more popular styles such as grungy illustrations or vector.
hope that answers the question, I dunno how well I explained it :D
I love this :o
