its just a matter of taste, but the bright white bg tends to attrack more attention than it should have. about the piece, I suggest you to check some tutorials about shading and metal reflections.
The shading doesn't seem indicative of a spherical object or suggestive of a brim..(You might also want to increase the contrast to make the shading more visible.)
I don't really have a preference on this, but people seem keen on having transparent backgrounds.
