amazing, just one thing, i think you could make the whole thing have less of a faded look by more saturated colors...

K.s (Level 2 Hired Gun) at 9/18/2007 2:05:08 AM
It's pretty nice, however something about the clouds is bothering, maybe you could have made it a bit smoother, but 52 colours, so nice job^

konix (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 9/17/2007 12:29:32 PM
Having it look like a final fantasy battle background was basically kind of the whole point. It wasn't really referenced from other stuff beyond the extent of it having similar scenery that included trees and mountains and dirt patches and stuff, but the actual look and style of it is (I would hope) somewhat unique imo.

nvision (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 9/17/2007 8:32:51 AM
Although it looks quite nice, is it just me, or does this look rather similar to the FFV/FFV Advance grasslands battle background?  It's certainly not ripped, but I would say it was heavily referenced...

silent sniper (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/15/2007 9:39:35 PM
beautiful landscape.

Imagician (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 9/15/2007 1:40:53 PM
Really beautiful! Anyway, since (to me) the clouds (whose shape is indeed  very convincing) seem to reach to the back of the scene (to where the further mountains are), the should lose some contrast as well. I feel their contrast remains the same too much all over the picture. Also, they (the clouds) should reflect on the water, which would display some more understanding of perspective, as the would intersect with the mountains in the water (which they don't on the upper side of the horizon ;).
So much for my blather

nihilyst (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 9/15/2007 9:52:02 AM
The texturing is awesome.

successiveaspect (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/14/2007 4:45:53 PM
Nice Bob Ross.
Although, it could have used a little more lake and a little less grassy plane.

Varock Shade (Level 7 Underboss) at 9/14/2007 12:42:46 PM
it looks very nice, but somehow i think the trees and the grass dont fit each other perfectly (maybe cause of the saturation)? (i know, a pine (or something) tree does have a bit grey-blue-greenish needles/leafs but still, maybe a bit more saturation on the trees and drop shadow would have done the trick)...

Biffo (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/14/2007 12:07:04 PM
I really like this.  The only crit I would make is regarding the vanishing point on the tree line.  As for water, It's fine.  If anything maybe add some horizontally shifted rows in the reflection that would fix that water issue.  I'm faving too in any case.  Awesome

inkspot (Level 4 Button Man) at 9/14/2007 9:27:08 AM
I don't quite like the way you solved the trees but overall piece is quite good. Now add some object of interest!

Edit:
Ok, on a second look, it looks even worse. Everyhting seems to be just random playing and overall scene is monotonous. Lack of depth, trees are all the same, no composition at all. Its just seems good luck to me.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/14/2007 8:56:09 AM
Oh good catch surt. I guess shadowning the edge weher the water meets the grass would fix that.

Sinuhet (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/14/2007 4:46:05 AM
Ou, very nice picture, nice scenery

surt (Level 10 Maniac) at 9/14/2007 12:34:43 AM
Beautifully rendered.
Is it just me, but does it look to have two vanishing points?
The near trees seem to vanish well below the horizon of the far trees and mountains.
I guess the topography is supposed to be sloping down to the lake, but it looks to me more like the trees are sinking into the ground.

Robot-Hero (Level 1 Thug) at 9/14/2007 12:31:48 AM
Fantastic, just it !

Rock3go (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/13/2007 1:00:42 PM

Esta espectacular.

Zlothien483 (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/12/2007 8:29:17 PM
Beautiful!! nice use of techniques,

d-p (Level 10 Maniac) at 9/12/2007 3:52:07 PM
Its simply wonderful.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/12/2007 11:44:27 AM
I meant nothing by my comment. Just curiosity. It is now fav'd ;)

Lawrence (Level 10 Operative) at 9/12/2007 11:30:02 AM
Very nice piece. I particularly like the clouds

konix (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 9/12/2007 9:32:40 AM
@jalonso
this was made as a background for an rpg maker game, so some of the colors used (pretty much just the trees, really) were referenced from an existing tileset that was intended to be used for the game. Apart from that, though, the image is completely original.

Stickman (Level 4 Deputy) at 9/12/2007 5:12:22 AM
The bare patches one the grass is wonderfully executed. I do also feel that a bit more could be done with the water, but it's a really good pic!

Morgan cook (Level 4 Deputy) at 9/11/2007 9:12:27 PM
I like this piece alot, the clouds are beautiful and even though theres horrible dirt spots in the grass it still is very pretty! But you should have AAd the grass touching the water, but still awesome!

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 9/11/2007 7:28:56 PM
This is amazing. I never understand how you guys are so good with backgrounds! Just to nitpick, the rock that's farthest back seems to have the same amount of detail as the rocks that are closest to the screen. It kind of creates the floating rocks illusion. Still though, looks realistic, but still retains a good pixel quality.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/11/2007 7:15:02 PM
Not a single thing is AAd, yet so smooth

*Just wondering 100% original, referenced or traced?

skamocore (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 9/11/2007 5:08:34 PM
um...wow...

all of this is great, especially the clouds

rajkosk8 (Level 3 Private Eye) at 9/11/2007 4:45:37 PM
very nice. grass color maybe stands out too much.

dogmeat (Level 7 General Manager) at 9/11/2007 4:22:41 PM
Wow, brilliant work here. I'll be staring at this one for a while.

Doomcreator0 (Level 6 SWAT) at 9/11/2007 4:20:01 PM
Great job, I especially like the grass and trees, however, you could work on the water a bit. Great job. An 8/10
