Here is another sprite from the series of WWII tank sprites I am designing for my upcoming game.  Well... at least I am designing...  We will see if it actually becomes a game.  :)

I usually do not share any of my personal project.  But, since WWII tanks are more of a historical designs, I thought I might share these with you.

This one is another one of my favorite WWII German tank.  Tiger II.  Often called "King Tiger".  What this tank was capable of on a spec sheet is often argued and disputed since there was not many good combat reports.  Also, Russians suppsedly captured some and made a report saying it had some serious mechanical issues.

I still think it was one of the coolest tanks from WWII time.

For default classification, they will have these theme colors

American=Green
German=Blue
Russian=Red
Brits=Yellow

In game, they will have proper colors and camouflages available.

these look pretty neat, russian tanks were mainly green though with a big red star on them. However good luck on your game

It's not "red" red.

More on the grey side with a tint of red on it.

Besides, all the tanks will have authentic color schemes for the game.

We will see...

Torokun, i wouldnt go with red for soviets. All the other armies colors seem accurate except the soviets'. Maybe instead, green or brown with elements of red for them?

LOL.  Yeah, they have too many!!!

I probably will ahve to come back to doing those you've mentioned.  For now, I gotta move on.

:)

don't even think about that (please =).. there are so much german tanks left: all these assault-tanks (jagdtiger, jagdpanther, hetzer,...), anti-aircraft-tanks, artellery-tanks...

and you haven't done a single halftrack yet =P

One more Super Heavy tank and I think I will move on to other countries' tanks.  I will post a compilation before start posting American tanks (which are next).

You are right except those things on the side of the turret are tracks for added armor support.  Not missiles.

:)

Torokun (Level 1 Private) at 9/14/2007 12:14:27 PM
You are absolutely right.

These sprites are not going to be used for the actual ingame graphics.  The game itself is in 3D.

They are currently monochromatic as a default setting.  Allies' default colors will be monochromatic as well.  But, have different dominant color depending on the countries.  For example, Germans will have this cold blue as you can see.  Americans will have the olive green.  Brits will have desert yellow. and the Soviets will have pinkish red.

And there will be variations with camouflage and other paint schemes.   :)

yup, working on the whole roster first.

I think I am improving too.

Also, I wasn't as serious when I first started.  You should see the Sherman I did.  LOL.  It's currently going through some edits.  I think I will have to do some touch ups on Panzer IVs as well.

By the way, the one on the right has the skirts.

Nathan,

Great to hear from you.  :)

Yeah, I struggled through this one a lot since it had many slopes.  It was hard to make the proportion and perspective look right.  Especially in this SD type of style.  It was harder than T28 american tank I worked on (haven't posted it yet).

By the time King Tiger was seeing the combat, Germany abandoned their Blitzkrieg tactics.  You are right in that King Tiger is not ideal tank for fast paced offensive battles.  By this time, tank crews probably were well aware of the fact that their Fuhrer's dream wasn't going to be realized and were very tired of battles.  Not to mention many ace tank crews were killed.

But, I do believe the rushed production, shortage of fuel as well as the mechanical problem attributed greatly to why King Tiger has a mixed reputation.

Another great, great tank. When will see a BG, can't wait.

dogmeat (Level 7 General Manager) at 9/14/2007 11:33:52 AM
adam, i think they're the same tank, but the one on the right has missiles and armor attached to the hook ins that you see on the left tank. Or am I wrong?

AdamPlays (Level 6 SWAT) at 9/14/2007 9:51:39 AM

These tanks are all very nice, but from a gameplay perspective, any non-WWII savvy player would have trouble identifying the differences between each of them.  They are all the same color and the visual cues that differentiate them are slight.  Just my 2 cents.

zAk (Level 2 Quiet One) at 9/14/2007 9:07:57 AM
Yup, the tiger was pretty awesome. I am a bit surprised that you are doing so many of these BUT this one is best yet and IMO it looks like youre improving. Now. Do some non-german tanks. :D Or will this game only feature german tanks? Cheers zAk

strangely enough, despite the fact that these are executed with an extremely high level of skill I have to say this is by far the best yet.  One suggestion would be on the reinforced model to put in those skirts that the nazis were so fond of.

biggest issues I remember were the fact that by the time they saw combat most of the tank crews were tired and badly trained, and despite it's apparent awesomeness, it would never have kept up with the blitz either because its bulk made it difficult to traverse rough terrain without getting bogged, and what good is a tank that can't go through rough terrain??
