its a large splash animation for when medium-sized ships in my game Birds of Fire crash overseas. Might also use it as a special effect for when torpedoes explode, but im not sure...
Ill make another version for small ships (the kind that spawn from larger enemies), debris and other small objects.
Ill also make another splash of about that size, a little shorter and wider but thats made to be used differently: ill use it repeatedly around the base of a very large ship, randomly spread along the water line, maybe with random scale values so they don't look too similar to one another...

(Edited after Lurdiak's first comment: Made the water movement a little faster at the end. Thankee Lurdiak)

Kinda even looks like an explosion from a beam. Regardless, very nice

Not that long actually, maybe two hours. (Though maybe I lose all track of time when I draw and animate?)

Your animation is always awesome.

Seems more like some icy explosion than water, but despite that it's very good! Must have cost you lot of time, good job!

oh god, what a lot of work! how long did you take this?

True enough, true enough. You're the expert here anyway. When I look at the anim now I only notice if I really try so it's fine as it is. No one will notice... unless they read these comments

Ah, the symmetry... Well I thought it wasn't such a good idea to make them assymetric. I already had a few second thoughts about making these few drops that fly higher as it broke the symmetry a lot. Point is, I should be trying to make sure they look pretty generic, or it will look too weird to see multiple splashes at the same time that all do the same shape. Its a lot like when you try to make a tileable terrain tile like grass: you try to make sure no parts of the tile stands out, or it makes a pattern easy to spot and makes a large patch of grass look awkward...

It definitely looks lots better now, but there's still something bugging me just a little. I think it's because said spikes are relatively symmetrical and fan-shaped, which is what throws me off and hurts the fluidity. Here, for example, this surrealist painting:

Note the slight angle of the splash and the lack of symmetry in the lines. But I'm just GUESSING at what's bugging me here, and it's STILL a nitpick. Maybe I'm just spike-racist? I only notice when I look at the frames individually anyway.

Youre right, but I don't think the problem is with the "spikes" being there, as much as the spikes being there for too long. It was supposed to give a feeling of weight to the water mass, but I made the "spikes" fall too slowly, so they look almost solid. Ill try editing it a little and see if it makes it better

EDIT: I made an adjustment based on this. You can see what it was before by checking small preview pic, left as is.

It's pretty good buddy, but the lines of the splash at the bottom are just a little too straight, which gives a feeling of a spiky ice spell rather than a watery "sploosh" thing. Just a little nitpick, though, you only notice if you stare right at it for a long while.
