Neota + adarias - thank you for the insight, I was having trouble with the main character and how he fit into the scene. Ill certainly take all this advice into account.

fantastic work but the purple character becomes background. Id suggest a nice color to add to the scene, such as gold (complement) or green (keep with winter and round out secondary colors)Also, the use of green should be made perhaps warmer and echoed somewhere. Healthbar and wrapping paper both come across as alien in their current forms. If you're adverse to a warm green element, i say swap current greens then for gold as well.

This is great and I love it except for the text--the red AA sticks out on my monitor and seems to make it look more jaggy than smoothed; maybe it's because the red third of the pixel is the leftmost (on my LCD at least) while you still use red pixels to aproximate a subpixel curve in the right side of the pixel?

except for the character, I am getting a very Ghouls'n'Ghosts vibe.. which is awesome (tree is delicious, I must eat it now. great cold solemn night atmosphere.). The character though reminds me more of Dangerous Dave or Final Fantasy in style -- more cartoony.. The outlines look realistic on others, on him they just look black, so I suggest lightening the outlines a bit. As it is, he pops out so much that he doesn't seem to even be near the same plane as the polar bear.
