The middle ground of the three mock-ups as far as technical skill and compositional/'artistic' appeal. My favorite of them all.

Purists note: again, HUD is completely ripped. Willing to erase it away if those with power so desire.

I love this.
The little humans are really cool, tough i never seen something like in a metroid game (okay i didn play all the metroids...). Samus is just great.

This reminds me of what Metroid Zero Mission looked like in early development stages (they did have super-deformed Samus), but obviously this looks way better.

Yes. They all use the same 16 (plus transparency) color palette.

I established the (super-vibrant) palette first when creating the main character sprites, so you would be correct in saying that the colors were forced, at least for the mock-up tiles.

Did you use a unified palette for all of them? The color choices seem a bit forced although they do fit rather well.
