Pixelation Secret Santa for Snake.

The guardians of the worlds. I tried to incorporate a sort of yin-yang idea.

Special thanks go to M.E. and Jalonso for helping me throughout the process of making this piece.

I think the reason it's so flat (excuse if anyone said this already i didn't read through every single comment) is cause there's barely any overlapping whatsoever.  The way the dithers are generally around the objects, makes it all seem like it's on one plane  -  if there were large chunks of the nebula that the planets and dragons overlapped - the illusion of there being several layers to the image that'd give it much more depth.

But overall still - that's a very impressive piece.  Don't know how I missed it, way to go!

Haha! Yes, I'm beginning to feel like that as well. Unfortunately, I have an unfinished pixel piece that's about as big and I'd like to think that I'll finish it...*Someday* :)

Unbelievably high resolution for a pixel piece! I have only undertook something like this once... never again: )

xy-mirror? Erm, I don't really understand what you mean but I guess the answer would be yes. They've been copy-pasted with some minor editing as I was trying to finish this in time. But no dither brushes, however (see my explanation below). And no, no excuse for the cookie-looking planets :S

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 12/25/2007 1:12:12 AM

the background looks quite impressive - well, zoomed out at least.. zoomed in most parts of the nebula look rushed, dunno, like doodled using dither brushes.. same with the wings somehow.. but thats the problem with such a big canvas: one has to fill and detail it

anyway, main crit is that the whole piece looks a bit too flat - 2 reasons: the planets, which look like cookies (dunno if xmas is your excuse =) and the dragon's wings, which would have given the whole piece more volume if they were spread

p.s. just wondering: did you xy-mirror the nebula?

It was my honour of giving you some little help
with this one marilii.
Snake is a lucky guy to be receiving such a nice
piece!

I just have to commend you for your patience in pixeling the background.  That must have been a nightmare.

Mirre (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 12/24/2007 2:59:27 PM
Very impressive. It is obvious that you spent alot of time and effort on this. Great job with the dithering anf blending of colours.

Hydronium (Level 1 Thug) at 12/24/2007 2:41:24 PM
Amazing colors and concept. I also think the dithering is a little overdone on the wings - makes them look a little flat and boring - maybe put a few small rips at the edges and make them more textured?

Shonoby (Level 1 Intern) at 12/24/2007 2:22:09 PM
O_O..................

Doomcreator0 (Level 6 SWAT) at 12/24/2007 1:59:49 PM

Wow this is great.

I think the creatures are great but the dithering is overdone. Try some different patterns maybe.

marilii (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 12/24/2007 1:39:57 PM
Nope, no dither brushes used. What I do, to make sure I dither the correct area, is that I colour that in with an obscure colour that I haven't used and then dither over it. And as I use layers, I simply get rid of the 'obscure colour' layer afterwards which then leaves the dithering and the main colour.

skeddles (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 12/24/2007 1:28:34 PM
Looking at the way the layers of dithering, it looks like you used a dither brush(which technically aren't pixel art).

Sorry if I falsely accused.
