OMG too many colors. I totally should have used a dozen and sticked to dithering. I'll do it next time, this is stil a couple of months old work.

I wanted a medium-sized sprite (yeah this is rather smal for me) with rather few colors, to aniate and play with in future. I hate the way the shading appears to look with 3-step palette for each colors, completely inappropriate compared to what It was suppose to be like. But well, I'll do better next time, if there should ever be a next time.

Buuut. I don't know if it could actualy fit the gallery either.

Constrctiveness and calm dialogue are mostly welcome!

Khris, well do believe it please. There's nothing unimaginable in working with many colors, when you're used to do so.Like there's nothing unbelievable in working with some intricate dithering, it's just not the same. I guess I could do some sort of "tutoraial" rfor my shading technique, though I have already posted a step-by-step walkthrough for the fist piece I have submited, in one of my comments on it, and it seemed to help a little.

Jalonso, I guess this is just a dead end and no good will get of it for anyone. But before you go for clearing the galery of  "crap" be sure to state all the rules, that you keep in mind to dinsinguish what suits PJ and what doesn't in the sublission rules section, it may help all the users and the community in many ways. And moreovre, it's simply user-friendly.

eckered, it is pixel art I am afraied, but the technique used on this pictures is not the point of it all, I am afraied.

greenraven, thank you for the piece of advice and understanding=)

To me, it looks a whole lot like hard pixel brushes were used, but at different opacities. That would explain the overall messiness of these pieces on a pixel level, and why a lot of them raise eyebrows on their validity as pure pixel art. Could you explain your method? I find it difficult to believe that the large amount of colors were actually picked out and not  just the result of layered semi-transparent pixels.

@eckered, nothing seems wrong on this specific piece. Its more that m00 is not fitting in well with the Pixeljoint community and the combined resistance and objection to the ways of Pixeljoint as it now stands is just not worth it.
We always say that member's join Pixeljoint and not the other way around.
If you'd like you may visit her gallery to read the comment threads on any/all the pieces to see that all this discussion is leading nowhere because we disagree on what makes something pixelart.
Moreso than it being about m00, I cannot allow for one's art or style to disrespect the hard work of the many members of Pixeljoint, some of which had her opinion too when joining Pixeljoint. The majority of the membership fully supports my words which I have been talking about not as my sole opinion but as the opinions of the majority.
Careful reading of all my comments always point to this and has only staryed once the passive-agressive behavior was brought in.
This piece is rejected for the intangible elements, namely the attitude and demeanor of the artist. Behavior in Pixeljoint, like color conservation and wise pixeart technique decisions are all thrown in the soup when evaluating a piece's possible addition into the gallery.
We, and I, by extension never judge on an artistic merit of any piece, ever. We seek to do the best we can to uphold pixelart techniques only. We are not perfect, we may or may not be right. This does not change that its the way it is. Pixeljoint membership is not mandatory. We are also nobody's Mommy and find no need to accept pretty pictures and pat anyone's back.
Therefore this piece in its totality does not meet our standards and is only left in the queue in public so that no one can claim that I am making a personal issue out of this which I am not.
Eckered, you should know my demeanor and behavior around here  by now and  know all to well that I take no personal issues  for the most part.  You are well aware that I will defend anyone who is insulted, flamed or put down in any way shape or form. This here is proof of that I am defending the majority here who struggle with color selections and palette creation and the difficulties involved with that.
For me so allow anyone, especially a new member to defeat this because 'picking random shades from the color picker' is her way or style or whatever is deemed is unfair, and not up to our quality standard.
I suppose in the long run it just may be time to do what we have dreaded doing for so long but are already able to do. Enforce in strict terms what constitutes pixelart for Pixeljoint and go through the entire gallery database and clean the CRAP out.
We really thought we could tighten the ship without much notice by anyone. But in the time I've wasted with m00 I could have already gone through the galleries of member's A thru D with no attempt to be cordial, polite or even understanding of m00's inability to comprehend what is being said.
anyhoo...not personal...technical.

Jal, I personally am wondering, what IS the non pixel art aspect of a this piece that is under examination?  To me, it looks almost all manual, and seems like a personal issue.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 12/30/2007 16:29
The current color limit is 256... or was it 265? Whichever, it's about 250.

Sometimes things can get a little heated in times like these. Just step back and take deep breath.

Sometimes when I get into an argument I take some time to think things over before saying/typing them. A well crafted defense is the best offense. Defend yourself, just try not to go overboard.

m00 (Level 1 Depressed) @ 12/30/2007 16:23
@greenraven, but ...everything I do can be done in MS paint. I sometimes work with it, when I'm not on my laptop and t's all fine - it takes a little longer, but still fine >.> I don't have a clue. It's not as If I used tools, layer tricks, whatever... I just pick random palettes that grow wide beause I like it whet it's smooth... somtimes less  sometimes more and what I would like to see is where's the limit?=( May be a hundred - hundred and a half colors should be fine??

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 12/30/2007 16:18
Well as a rule of thumb for submitting to the gallery: "If it can't be done in MSpaint, it won't get accepted."

Transparencies are pretty much the only exception to that rule.

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 12/30/2007 16:12
He has nothing against you personally, and honestly the things you've 'asked' and 'explained' weren't all perfectly innocent either.  You've been pretty bitter and sarcastic the whole way through, as far as I can tell, and these 'rules' have been explained to you many times over now.

At this point it's really just take it or leave it.  If the PIXEL aspect of this gallery doesn't appeal to you, you're free to go elsewhere where the CG-ness is appreciated

user
m00 (Level 1 Depressed) @ 12/30/2007 16:12

greenraven, you're right indeed!  What I did not understad is how to choose what should be posted here and what shouldn't, if it all seems to fit the rules and people say it doesn't,  - while the rules state no exra restrctions? So I'm lost, I do not understad how it works, and I try to discus and to argue... It's great to get constructive critique, but I don't fell like I deserved the offence that I got with it really.

leel, sarcastic yes I was, obviously - for I felt that I have got some pretty harsh feed-back and m reaction was appropriate. I fel like no one would listen if I went on nicely. Sorry if it wasn't, you can't always measure well. Yet it wasn't baseless nor reasonless! And censorship is a sort of an ugly way to answer a discussion that has gone bad but was totally correct after all. But well.

user
m00 (Level 1 Depressed) @ 12/30/2007 16:06
Jalonso, all right. Now if you have really something deep against myself personally, should we probaly discuss it elsewhere and in a calmer way? Obvisouly I don't have the same rights as you (not in terms of the administration, but simply as members part of the community) and I should have kept silent. Yo make the rules we obey. But I have done nothing but ask what are the rules I should obey. I have asked for constructiveness and dialogue, communication. This really deserves pure and simple censorship? Because I try to discuss the images I post?

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 12/30/2007 16:06
I dunno, seems a bit harsh don't you think?

But m00, you really should sit back and take a moment to soak this in: "Respect the rules of the house." Regardless of how crazy the rules may seem, you kinda have to follow them.

It may seem like everyone is against you, and maybe it's true in some form or another, but it all comes down to the rules and guidelines.

I make a lot of art but only a handful of it is submitted here on Pixeljoint. Why? Because it doesn't follow the rules here. What belongs here, I post here. What doesn't, I post elsewhere. No fuss, no muss.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 12/30/2007 15:58
Completely bored now, with no chance of going back!
I will not add anything that you submit into the gallery.
Submissions by you will be sent back sight unseen regardless of pixelart validity.
You simply do not fit in here.

The best to you in the new year :)

m00 (Level 1 Depressed) @ 12/30/2007 15:50

Vertigo-Zero, why, well, thank you=)

leel, I am guitly of liking button-noses! *weeps* I an't help it=( But I noticed that people in general either love i to pieces or hate it completely. But you're right about the outline...it's too visible. I have noticed it but was fa too lazy to modify the base. Thanx for critiqe!

greenraven, thanx!

jalonso, well, let me explain myself then, an artist can judge that her(his) own work isn't quite good enough for some reasons and therefore put it textually as crap, ay. Is it offending anyone? I don' t hink that the pj community will take it badly, I am indeed sorry if I am mistaken. On the other hand I personally do feel offended by the way I am treated and, ay, it isn't quite fairplay, is it? I have done but explained my reasons for submiting this piece in particular in very simple and straight-forward terms. ShouldI have been more hypocrite - woul hypocraty be profitable for the community? But, ay, of course it will be revised indeed.

That looks great.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 12/30/2007 15:38
PJ terms of use are very clear that behavior too is a basis for exclusion.
You are simply being passive-agressive now and I am rather bored by it all.
Sarcasm and this you against the world (pixeljoint) stuff is pointless.
Since you admit that this is CRAP. You have sent your own work for revision till its NOT crap.

Now cut the CRAP, jeez.

Vertigo-Zero (Level 9 Necrophiliac) @ 12/30/2007 15:37
Wow this piece is perfect, no NPA questions or complaints about too much colour... Style is great, character is great... atmosphere is perfect :D Faved

user
leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 12/30/2007 15:37
I noticed something is many of your faces: the noses are always ... button-y  9.9

Usually that's really cute and not a problem at all, but here it looks weird - like it's just a little bump and that's it - that dark line at the top is completely unnecessary and if anything, it just takes away from the whole rather than reinforcing it..   Just cause the whole style is sort of elegant and elongated and then *screech* this odd nose that almost looks like a tip of a finger

But I disagree with you on the shading, maybe one day you'll start seeing where we (the color-complainers) are coming from ;)
