(zoom so you can see the pixels.. by doing this the picture will look like a picture..)
Happy new year!
This made me thinking about what is pixel art and what is not.. Using two colors and 320x240 as dimensions doesn't make it pixel art.. and i did use my beloved wacom for most parts. What do you think?
Btw.. it's really hard to do anything with two colors and so little to work with :S.. but I'm still noob so maybe It's just me..
Please point out which parts sucks(why) and if any part is good let me know too, I've shown this to my friends by they can't appreciate pixel art or art for that matter...

Even when a piece is sent back the icon is available for avatar use. You need do nothing about this. I invite you to make a WIP thread out of this and I'll show you what I mean and you'll be pleasantly surprised that good pixelart techniques do not alter your vision or art. On the contrary they garner more respect and admiration. The public queue can be founf under 'gallery', here PJ members (over level 2) can vote whether a piece should or should not be added to the gallery.
I did not miss your first post and i was very happy to hear you liked it :), i just didn't respond to it right. I'm just not sure i got the skills to turn this into something which would pass as pixelart and still look the same :/. I promised i would finish this before midnight and it feels a bit wrong to change it afterwards, but maybe It's just a stupid obsession. I guess i could attack the cyclops armor and the firework but after that i have no idea of what to do. The tail of the mermaid looks very unclean but i think i should look like that :/. I think this is what makes this picture what it is :).
I know nothing is personal and i like the strict rules people have here, it makes things what they are.
10 hours on a single pixelart piece is nothing actually. Everybody works at a different pace. Its about pixel placement precision. You missed my saying that I liked it and wish it was clean so it can be added. As for am I the only person that admits pixels into the gallery, NO. There are about a dozen of us here. I am the most chatty so sometimes it seems like I am but this is not so. When I left the first comment I could have added or sent back. I did neither. I stated my opinion on the piece as an individual only and not a sole decider. I then left it for all the mods to review and accept or send back. We work by consensus and add to this the public voting queue. That I state my opinion means only that I stated my opinion. The Mod team all are however on the same page most of the time. We all have different styles and like different things. Its for this reason that we do not judge on what a submission looks like but the pixel art aspect of which pixelart techniques rule the day. I ask that you re-read my first comment down there. I even asked you on advice on how to get this into the gallery did I not? I truly was trying to help. The bucket fill (one solid color in an area) is the only tool/effect allowed. You are correct its a waste of time hand pixelling using a single color. This is totally cool and allowed in pixelart. I just pointed out that lineart quality is very, very important. lineart quality = cleanliness and precision in the lines construction, not what the lineart represents. I truly wish I had time this week to edit a section of this to visually show you what lineart quality means. It wouldn't change your idea at all. It would also be accepted well. The majority of PJusers are lineart snobs. If I put this in the gallery in one hour's time I guarantee you that at least half a dozen reports would be in our folder. Nothing here is personal. If you'd like you can take this to the forum for member input and other's thoughts. (same as mine, I assure you). It would be cool tho cuz I would play with your pixels.
ps: It was me that added/approved the other two pixels in the gallery, both very good work.
I reread my first post and i feel as if I've insulted pixel artists.. 10 hours must be nothing to the pixel gurus but not everyone is that skilled and would benefit from a 10hour session, just because something isn't good doesn't mean it's not pixel art right? :P. When mentioned, i realize that this would be better described as oekaki. I will not spill one single tear if this does not get accepted.
Btw jalanso, are you the only one accepting pixels?
I just read the requirements for uploading a piece of art, is a gradient fill the same thing as a fill? because i filled the background black before i begun.. i could just shut up about this but let's face it, if i ware to place one pixel at a time with the speed of 2 pixels in one second it would still have taken me about 10 hours. I've seen really really large pieces with massive detail and i can't believe anyone would place one pixel at a time.. you get down to that when you do details or really small pieces. :S i did however use the size of one pixel when i drawed this.. Personally i think if things look like pixel art they are :P...
The less color you use in pixelart the more control and presicion your pixels must have. You have the right idea here but its very sloppy in too many areas to be pixelart, pixelart, ya know.
Its kool, its a doodle, its oekaki, its got pixelart areas here and there. It does have style and creativity.
