This is a Venus composition and illustrates an Indian folk story of a Sultan who lost a bet. He risked his favourite daughter's purity. She however was so pure that when the winner of the bet tried to remove her sari he found it's fabric never ending and was never able to enjoy his winnings...something like that XD
Awesome work man. The way she wears the sari is perfect.
The actual story goes like this- There were 5 brothers married to a woman "Draupadi". They once once played a game(ludo) with rival 100 brothers of some other kingdom. They lost everything including land, throne, cash, etc. Atlast they bet "Draupadi" and lost. The rival alpha brother tried to undress her but couldnt as "Krishna"(some random incarnation of Vishnu) elongated her sari infinitely.
All the difficult tasks are combined in this work: patterns, person, a face and clothing. That must have been more difficult than one might think. Nice effort.
That's the Bengali version I think. The other version is that with every sari removed another sari was underneath. In this version the figure (a laxmi incarnate) is normally seen atop a mountain of fabric. One week challenge forced me to go with the simpler version.
She could rupture time and space by undressing so much cloth it would outweigh the universe! She might not realize this yet but SHE IS PRETTY MUCH A LIVING DOOMSDAY DEVICE
Very nice, I especially love all the carefully drawn textures and details... Also, I dont really see the problem with the long cloth. The cloth thats on the ground there was torn away by the dirty gambler that tried to undress her, it should be twisty like this.
This is very nice, but it's not one of my favorites from this week's challenge. The biggest problem for me is the trailing fabric. The story in your comments explain this fabric well enough, and the symbolic touches are nice. The fabric on her body, from shoulder to ankle, is really quite good. The trailing fabric, however, feels heavy, lumpy, thick, and coiled. The cloth has folds all over, like it's been bunched up from many different directions. In parts, it looks a bit like sausage rings. It just doesn't seem to make any sense being bunched up like that, and it looks bad to me. Also, it seems like it's coming out of only one side of the dress with the other side completely unaffected, and this is also something that doesn't work for me.
As for the "tapestry effect"; while the border and trim all look very nice, the perfectly clear image breaks that effect. It's kinda like the difference between an iron-on and a stitched picture. I just wonder if the doll would work better with just the castle background and some of the border.
Nice job, though. The story is represented very well in this picture. The elephants, hanging rope, flowers, and hands are especially nice.
Oh man this is beautiful, I love the ropes you've added, and the ground's texture is great! The story is a bonus too. Will definitely be voting for this one.
I hope you didn't think I was offended! I just had no idea what a "doll" really was, since I've seen it applied both to realistic/cartoony, borrowed/original bases, NPA-tooled/pure-pixelled, etc. I'm not sure what fuzzy definition of "doll" exists in my mind, it's just that this didn't seem to fit While I've never "dolled" myself, I have a respect for the detail and complicated folds that are put into the clothes. That's part of the reason I made this topic for the challenge--I wanted to see some original dolls that were pure pixel art, no dirty tools
Oh Mash, I have no clue what a doller is. I know many borrow bases and some of the better ones make their own. I call doller anyone who 'dresses' or make an outfit as the main focus and trying to make said outfit cute regardless of techniques used. I do this because I make pixelart and not costume dolls. I reckon if I were a doller I'd call everyone here something silly too. I mean no offense and I'm certainly not anti dolling and feel they have a place in PJ too.
No fair, dollers shouldn't have the texture skills of isoists! (is this really a doll? in my limited understanding of such things I wouldn't call it one, but I have been mistaken before ) I love the rich colours of this, and the elephants are darn cool. Wonderful job!
The dropped flower is symbolic of her emotional state as is her fathers castle in the BG with a huge mountain in the way. You see by having gambled her away her purity was instantly compromised.
If she's so pure how come she dropped that other flower?
Awesome job on this. But the ropes hanging from the top are a bit distracting... since it's supposed to be realistic... if the ropes are hanging down, then how is this hanging up? O_o
Amazing! Definitely my first choice for voting. He he I wonder why the favorite daughter didn't beat the living snot out of the perv and her dad with her six arms!
Nicely done.=) Two upper pairs of arms following the same vector a little confusing compositionaly, maybe a better solution to put those from a sides at slight angel up or down.
This turned out wicked man. Really great piece, first place material here.
I wish I could crit more often, I find myself posting more positive lately. Peoples work here is improving greatly, such as this one. This is one of your betters, if not the best. 7/7
I agree with hatch... maybe put less of them on there... and somehow i don't like the colours... but definetely a nice piece, and a nice amount of detail
