okay.. looks like i'm finally done with this one, kinda neverending story that was - have been pixeling on this piece since august 2006 (with longer breaks of course) and on places all over germany.. and austria even

originally done for the gfx competition of the railways-themed and tradionally monkey-mascotted evoke 2oo6 demoparty in cologne, but probably started a bit too late and only entered this heavily unfinished party-version.. still got 7th place between dozens of finished
24bit-pieces, hehe =)

final version mainly done in trains between hamburg and dresden in autumn 2007 and over the last 2 months. mix of styles and unoptimized palette aside i'm still not totally satisfied with the house especially, but don't feel like investing more months into it =)

20px border to avoid that pj-standart grey sucks the colors out, idea stolen from ilkke's =)

reference: none

tools: photoshop (sketch/concept), grafx2

wip: www.piexeln.de/pics/tomic-charlie_wip-anim.gif (247 frames, oh yes!)

Great pic. I like the blue ambient light on the monkey and its face :)

user
Skurwy87 (Level 6 Made) @ 4/27/2008 21:33
haha, the monkey looks like a monkey vault dweller, if you see what I mean! ;)

Darth Mandarb (Level 10 Operative) @ 3/8/2008 12:37
my first thought was "no way this is pixeled!" but upon zooming in I see it!  Excellent job!

user
Oskar (Level 1 Thug) @ 3/7/2008 23:40

That monkey looks perfect. And this art is quite funny.

user
Tirza (Level 1 Gangster) @ 3/4/2008 08:13
Kinda creepy, but really nice style!

user
Frost (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2008 19:54
Vary nice as usual.
The only thing I can complain about is the edge of the door.

user
ProgZmax (Level 1 Depressed) @ 3/3/2008 12:16
This is very cool and a challenging perspective to tackle!  5/5 and Favorite.

Wuuhuu (Level 2 Kukyu) @ 3/2/2008 23:27
Wow. Really wonderful. But I cant really understand when he is holding the little building, then there is 3 fingers sticking out, and on the top of it, there is a thumb! Very long hand in my opinion. Other than that, Awesome!

user
cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 3/2/2008 20:27
Ballin'.
You got your style down pat.

user
Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/2/2008 18:12
I get a feeling that the monkey is so very flat, especially the face and hand. Hand seems to be due to a lack of depth in the colours (perhaps it's just my monitor). Great pixelling of course, i really like how you did the house (because of it's depth probs?).

user
Brokencode (Level 1 Rookie) @ 3/2/2008 13:42
very lol

user
tomic (Level 11 Admiral) @ 3/2/2008 12:18

never realised that, but yepp, a certain, obviously subconcious, thus not intended preference cannot be denied. i'll try to neutralize that with more ega pieces in the future*

* official announcement, blame ilkke =)

Gas 13 (Level 9 Boss) @ 3/2/2008 05:25
Looks great, thanks for the wip!

user
Fuzzyleaves (Level 5 Detective) @ 3/1/2008 11:15
it's nice to see it  again finished.

user
Jaeden (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 3/1/2008 09:34
lol first thing i thought was that it looked like my dad

user
Acherhar (Level 5 Lieutenant) @ 3/1/2008 09:09
Miumau0, there's no floor to the house, you can see the light inside of it. Awesome pixel, I really love the train.

user
klav (Level 7 Mass Murderer) @ 3/1/2008 09:06
longest wip animation ever.  and i really dig the stones/graffiti on the platform

user
chess (Level 8 Shodan) @ 3/1/2008 08:58
7. what a gigantic piece of good art :-O

user
DeProgrammer (Level 7 Underboss) @ 3/1/2008 08:42
Watching your WIP makes me realize why I'm so terrible at realistic drawing and pixel art. Awesome job. I ended up with a 4000+-frame WIP (via my Paint WIP Grabber) when I made my first pixel scene.

user
Miumau0 (Level 6 Made) @ 3/1/2008 08:42
there should be a hole on the house's floor. Place where lamp goes. I love the shading.

user
Arfff (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 3/1/2008 08:32
the kind of piece thats motivates!

user
iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 3/1/2008 07:42
Classic tomic. It was about fucking time as well :D
I think it's great that you mostly did this railway themed pic while riding trains.
144 colors seems like a lot, but my guess is that you have a standard 256 color palette that you later take unused clors out of. Kidding. I don't really think you do that.
Only crit would be that some of your pics share a very similar color scheme.

user
Flarfy (Level 5 Detective) @ 3/1/2008 07:17
Damn! That's one scary monkeyboy! This is what would come out of it if M. Bison had a child with a monkey! Great pixel

user
Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 3/1/2008 07:10
yeah baby, yeah.

user
Elk (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 3/1/2008 06:54
