A character selection screen mockup that i hadn't finished in time for the 4/30/2007 challenge. For some reason i felt like finishing unfinished stuff today so this was one of them.

I was gunna fill the text space with "blahblahblah" but i decided not to, so don't like, take it seriously or anything. It's edited Nina size 7 font in the old version, and tahoma size 7 in the new.

06-03-08 Made some updates.
1st Old version.
09-03-08 More updates, mainly on the cape.
2nd Old version.

I like the cape a lot

BoxedLunch (Level 1 Depressed) @ 9/14/2009 15:27

This really makes me want to do a fighting game soon.

Arthurio (Level 1 Rookie) @ 9/5/2009 01:10

oh ! awesome :)

wormwood (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/18/2009 10:06

Great work. His cape is brilliant.
The AA on the highlight circles around the character selection could be improved to make them rounder. The character to the right of the selection could be better drawn. The flame should come down the left side of his thumb a bit and grey the black outline next to the white of the flame. The 4 big numbers on the right could be more stylish.
I would have called the character BOMBHEAD The Detonator :)

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 12/11/2008 10:38
Thanks Slemsvamp! :)
I guess you're talking about the cape? I can definitely see what you mean, although i don't think i can really be botherred to change it. :P Thanks anyway though, i'll take it into account when i next do something similar.

Slemsvamp (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 12/10/2008 18:26
I really should not give YOU advice really, but I could'nt help noticing that the cape looks like it got stripes instead of being curved (if-you-know-what-i-mean-sorry-for-my-english). Would look better with less curves or if they were placed randomly.

Other than that, you're very talented, love your work!

gingerspam (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 8/20/2008 12:20
dude this is awsome!!!

Kyrislian (Level 1 Depressed) @ 8/7/2008 10:18
Oh that's NICE. I love the dithering on the bombs, head and cloak :)

hotnikkelz (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/27/2008 20:06

That's some expert dithering!  Very nice piece.

alkaline (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 3/7/2008 16:06
love the update. thought the old one was meh but i like how you changed it :P

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/6/2008 15:18
Updated, thanks again everyone.
I still need to fix that cape, but it's late as usual so i'll try again some other time.
Stop overrating.. >_<

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/6/2008 12:33
Lol Reo, i think you need to cut down on the sugar. :P Thanks though.
iLKke, i'm working on getting the palette better best i can with my home computer. Sortof purely from knowledge that mine has less contrast in darker colours. Hopefully it'll be a bit better. Thanks aswel, that's good to know. :)
So yeah, i'm working on a update now, have already fixed the mini-faces on the top left, will work on the Marbleface sprite itself now.

iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 3/6/2008 09:33
Right now I'm viewing this at work, and when I saw it at home couple of days ago I actually thought that you had changed the palette in response to my crit. Now I see that's not the case. The problem with different monitor setups in unavoidable, but one should always strive to make the most robust palettes that will look decent on all monitors.

And regarding this piece being embarrassing , there are a million details out of place on it when compared to your maximum, but the whole piece has a nice feel and a million more awesome details to make up for it!

Reo (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 3/6/2008 08:22
WTF!!!I im gone for 4 days and you sumbit something awesome??!

I HATE to miss the action!!

Doppleganger (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 3/5/2008 18:58
No problemo! I figured that it was worthy of some well thought out critique. ;)

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/5/2008 15:48
Thanks Dopple! Of course you're absolutely right. The cape i am very dissapointed in because i rushed the dithering and shading so much i didn't even care about the shard of unfinished highlighting on it. Not sure if i'll fix it someday, but i probs will. I'll look into everything you mentioned.
I've decided that the red balls count for amount of rivals/foes in the group of characters and the blue balls are his allies or simply neutral combatants. Of course only the amount is stated here, sortof like a rep thing.

Hehe thanks Skull.

Skull (Level 11 CEO) @ 3/5/2008 13:38
I do hate how smooth you make everything look.. wonderful work.

Doppleganger (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 3/5/2008 07:47
This is pretty neat. I've a few nitpicks though.

The first, the character, short of his head and cape, lacks depth. I'd even say that the cape lacks a certain amount of depth, it's just that it's been shaded with more contrast than the rest of him that makes me say otherwise. Continuing with the cape, I believe that it could've been smoothed out better. It flows in a very non-continuous manner; there are a lot of bumps and straight edges.

I'm not sure what the red and blue spheres are for, but they look like an afterthought, and therefore out of place. I guess that's about all I can pick out without thinking too hard or going into technicalities.

What I do like is the character design, the always fabulous bombs, and the the character select area. The composition is good too, but the choice of colors and shapes on the right half creates a feeling that they're all fighting for attention with nothing really getting it.

Well that was rather long-winded XD

Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 3/5/2008 03:47
I'm looking at this on the college computers and they show the dark gray background colour to be so much lighter than the black, much more than it looks to me at home. If thats the case with you to i guess you'll have to bare with me, till i get my new monitor.
EDIT: Although wait, i just checked out this monitor's contrast and gamma stuff on the net and it seems to be too light (other side of the spectrum to my home computer, haha), so i won't worry.

Btw thanks everyone. I'm surprised people like it so much, it was quite rushed and it's generally quite old. It's kinda embarrassing.

zi-double (Level 9 Necrophiliac) @ 3/5/2008 00:30
very nice :) All orb elements are very nice, only his mantle is too flat ... else agreed that letters are very hard to read ...

iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 3/3/2008 05:33
Yay! Larwick's on a pixel-spree!
Love the mockup, apart from the very hard to read letters.

-Dingo- (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 3/2/2008 17:06
Really cool looking.

cerealkiller54 (Level 6 Made) @ 3/2/2008 16:12
Sweet job.  I like it.

tomic (Level 11 Admiral) @ 3/2/2008 14:00
yepp, the cape is my only crit too (a bit too flat, needs folds or something imo), everything else is just top-notch. as usual.

AdamF (Level 11 CEO) @ 3/2/2008 13:57

The dithering doesn't seem to fit on the cape...but otherwise this is great!
