since all these details on the static portions of the image are wonderfull, i wondered why the  animation lacks the smooothness that would turn this into a kick-ass classic

Yeah I agree wth iLKke.  It's real nice but the dithering on the light itself just bugs me.

I like the color mixing on the column and the snow.
The aurora itself is too dithered, given those 70-something colors you have there.

This is fantastic. I noticed though that in one tiny spot in the shading on the upper-right side of the sphere, there are a few pixels that disappear during the animation and then reappear after it's complete.

yeah, I know, but I read somewhere that the northern lights move and change fastly. I dunno if that's true or not, but a fast animation covers my pixeling mistakes XD

I know my cat likes it, she was pawing at it when I was watching it. Anyways, I like it. Nice choice of colors, good dithering, and the color transition in the animation flows pretty well. Nice work.
