Heh, I was trying to do this without references. The lightsource was intended to be on the top-left. I tried added a shadow from the "beak", but it looked terrible..
I'll try to study shading and all, then make another one of these.
You always need to start by setting a lightsource. Is the light coming from the topleft, or left? If it's coming from the topleft, the beek should be casting a shadow over the neck. If it's coming from the left, then the topleft part of its head should be less bright. There are probably a bunch of tutorials for this sort of thing around here...
