I figure I'd post this as my first work on pixeljoint. (not my first work ever, mind you. just my first work posted here)

151 colors or so done over a period of days and days. the rounded up time of work i did on this, subtracting all the nonsense like food, sleep and frustratedly storing it away in the hopes i would forget all about it... is a little over 37 hours.

i personally challenged myself to make a pixel piece using as many colors as i could using Microsoft Paint all the way. she is the result. (i have a step by step of my progress if you might have difficulty accepting that this is a pixeled piece through and through)

future pixels i might post here won't be nearly as intense as her.. but i hope it's a nice "hello"

the face reminds me of an arabic whore.

Antago (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/7/2008 6:12:50 PM

sweet

farvardin (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/5/2008 11:48:50 AM
It reminds me of Jaeden's Water Nymph!
Great work, I like the fact some parts are smooth while others are not.

Everlong (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/5/2008 10:06:11 AM
This is a wonderful piece, i really like the hair :)

blueleds (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/5/2008 12:55:26 AM

Did you intend for the jugulars to connect to the clavicles like that?  Usually they go behind.

Nora (Level 1 Depressed) at 4/4/2008 8:59:20 AM
Scary, but beautiful at the same time. Impressive.

Gluk (Level 3 Private Eye) at 4/4/2008 4:06:57 AM
Its really cool

blueleds (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/3/2008 6:53:01 PM
Very good.  The drapey stuff at the bottom is really unique and interesting-looking.

FlyGuy (Level 7 Underboss) at 4/3/2008 5:53:48 PM

I like this one much better than the 2nd picture you've submitted. If you AA'ed, your work would be perfect.

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 4/3/2008 4:08:39 PM
Yes yes, I agree with PB, your wip threads would be totally inspiring!

pixelblink (Level 8 Marshal) at 4/3/2008 1:04:36 PM
I'd like to see you get active in the forums here as well. I think we'd both gain something from your activity there. Welcome to the community!

bunnystick (Level 1 Intern) at 4/3/2008 12:16:58 PM

I’m glad this work was accepted and I’m also very glad for the constructive criticism. It's why I wanted to join the place.  I love DA like I love any artistic community where I can get my work out there and learn from other members' artistic efforts. PJ may be harsh but truth often is and I very much appreciate truth.

Thanks a lot guys! I shall try to apply all suggestions and criticisms in future works.

Adarias (Level 7 Colonel) at 4/3/2008 12:07:41 PM
yup, people said it.  very nicely done even if the pixel-level is totally undeveloped.  a thumbs up from me.

pixelblink (Level 8 Marshal) at 4/3/2008 12:00:34 PM
I wanted to add that, wow, you'd NEVER get this amount of awesome constructive criticism on DA. I really hope you've gained something out of this

leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 4/3/2008 9:08:22 AM
this might be already mentioned, but what's the point of using so many colors if you don't even aa the silver chain on the side?   Also the ears are quite choppy and some parts of the hair could be a little smoothed out.  I won't get into the whole 'omg too many colors' debate, since I'm sure you'll get enough of that, but I do want to say that if you ARE gonna use a large amount like that, then use the shit out of them, you know?  Get the most out of it.

The face is really smooth, yes, but with other jaggy/pixelly parts, I think it would have been so much easier for you, and equally nice to look at if you used a more reasonable number of colors, and I don't know.. dithered or something.   It just seems like all that work with the colors didn't really produce a jaw-dropping result.

That said, the design itself is pretty cool, the silver thing on the bottom is especially nifty - you did an awesome job with the cast shadow on her chest.  And the hair has a nice flow, my favorite part is beneath her left ear, but again, the loose strands are awfully jaggy - I don't recommend you AA things on the outside like that, but the lines do need to be cleaned up.

As for the *stylized* anatomy - the collarbones work, IMO, but the neck is really odd looking.   I think you defined the .. uh.. whatever they're called.. too much, the left side especially is kind of scary, I don't know if you used a reference or not, but I definitely thing you should ease up on the shadows there,  make it more of a subtle.. bulge..

Blah blah blah, that's all I have to say.   I remember your site, glad to see you here, looking forward to more and all that nice stuff

macula (Level 6 Hitman) at 4/3/2008 8:54:58 AM
Wow really nice work!

Saboteur (Level 4 Shichikyu) at 4/3/2008 6:45:20 AM
Very nice, but why the ridiculous banding on her left ear?

Miumau0 (Level 5 Soldier) at 4/3/2008 5:18:37 AM

nice, I like this pretty much. fav'd

151 colors?

neota (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 4/3/2008 4:47:10 AM
It's a very strong picture -- more expressively than technically.
I gotta say.. next time it might be smarter to use a more powerful tool. Using lots of colors is a difficult thing to do well, and you might have been better served by Pro Motion, or at the least GIMP.
As it is, I think there are about 64 colors on this that are significant, the rest are near invisible. As the number of colors rises, you need to start making different aesthetic choices to showcase the extra colors. Soft lighting is something that helps, and you've used that here. In fact, what I primarily think would help here is working on antialiasing -- it would really help improve parts like the lower part of her top, where there is structure that may be realistic that still isn't aesthetic.
Secondarily, shaping -- when drawing with a lot of colors, it's tempting to discard the significance in small mistakes in the shape of a particular area of a shade, which usually makes it look flattened or bevelled as the mistakes accumulate across multiple shades. (getting good shaping tends to also depend strongly on your method of construction for the pic, in my experience.)

The subtle tinting is a nice effect -- I believe you will find that less subtlety is necessary to make the effect apparent to the average peon :)

Badassbill (Level 8 Cannibal) at 4/3/2008 3:48:56 AM
Needs a lot of refinement.

Mille (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 4/3/2008 2:47:28 AM
While most of this is greatly done, it seems that some parts have been forgotten... the eyebrows and the ear especially dont match the quality of the rest.

The use of too many colors is a parti-pris here so there not much to say about it, but could have been used better, on the eyebrows especially as Jal noticed.

EDIT: oh, forgot to say that Id be glad to see more pixels from you.

Welcome to PixelJoint BunnyStick

I love the Nymph's eyes. They have a real watery depth to them.
My only critique would be that the neck muscles look a little odd. I think they need to blend into the skin a little more around the central area.
Maybe adding some of the deep orange of her hair to some areas of her skin might link it better to her head.
Overall I really like it and I can't wait to see what other pictures you come up with.

Fool (Level 6 SWAT) at 4/3/2008 2:32:14 AM
Although overall it looks great, but something wrong going on her neck - i don't have enough english to explain it - don't know anatomy terms well, but i would check for references - those muscles are really-really strange. Also, greyish hues at the hair roots make it look like stitches, maybe brownish would fit somewhat better.=) Jewelery piece looks awesome.=)

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 4/3/2008 1:04:55 AM
It's funny, as the skin show so much time and attention, yet her hair seems slapped on a bit, without as much detail and care as the rest of the piece. I'm guessing you got tired of looking at it, and just rushed it towards the end, heh. It might be the light orange highlights are a bit too strong and clash against their orange cousin-hues. Also, I'd like to echo PB's statement with the ears. Still looks great though.
I guess I'm going against the grain, but I actually like the hues in the eye, though, some of the reds/oranges in her iris may be too extreme in relation to the other colors in the iris. Maybe that's what old man Jal was trying to say.
Don't know what those things at the bottom are, but they look pretty interesting. Either way, with a piece this big, attention to detail is hard, I can understand. Looks great, though...

pixelblink (Level 8 Marshal) at 4/3/2008 12:32:31 AM
I think what Jalonso was saying was that the colour count is quite high and alot of the skin colours could've been lessened without any quality difference giving you more room to add colour to the hair which could make it a bit smoother. Personally, I'm a fan of this pieces aesthetics in general and your wip shows a good amount of work went into it. Giving yourself time and practice to work with a lower colour count will give you not only more respect on a pixel piece but also give you skills to work with a limited palette which will help you learn new shading techniques.
To nitpick a bit: the right shoulder as well as the ears look a bit blocky and could use a bit more touch up.

bunnystick (Level 1 Intern) at 4/2/2008 1:00:09 AM
i'm sorry you feel that way jonsolo.

i admit that i am a fan of the eyes. always have been. i wanted them to be just right, i wanted them to look shocking and firey so i paid special attention to them. i assure you i worked very hard on this piece and if some parts may impress while others don't then my style may not be for you.

bunnystick (Level 1 Intern) at 4/2/2008 12:45:09 AM
ooh no no, it's not my first piece i've ever done, no. its the first piece i've ever posted on this site. i've been pixeling for years otherwise.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 4/1/2008 1:36:06 PM
Not fully impressed here. Maybe when I see more.
The over pixelling in areas such as the neck and general flesh when balanced to the 'scrappy' as seen on the hairline, just leads me to distrust this.

Putting that many pixels in the iris and yet being so crude on the eyebrows right next to them is a red flag for me. Does not compute : /

greenraven (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 4/1/2008 1:29:40 PM
Splendidly done.

PixelSpy (Level 5 Captain) at 4/1/2008 12:51:23 PM

Very impressive flesh tones

dragonxxjef (Level 1 Gangster) at 4/1/2008 12:46:26 PM
