Haven't had much to upload here in a while mainly because I been using all my pixelling time on my game projects such as my retro game ya see here known as Hero - Celestial Force.  Already posted a pic of this game a while ago but that image is now very much out of date so here's some brand new shots from the first level.  These are real shots, not mock ups, so the game is playable but I still got a long way to go before even level 1 is complete.  Enjoying the heck out of making it though :)

And yeah it's still mostly inspired by the NES and uses a custom palette from one of the NES emulators (and has an original NSF soundtrack), but not the actual NES graphic limitations, so I guess the graphic style is somewhere between NES and SNES now.  Maybe call it NES Plus. :P

Very well done, the rocks are quite nice.
The pipe line work is an awesome idea, I never though of that.
Logo is done quite nicely as well.

Fav'd and 6/6. :]

My two favorite computers those are :)  I would like to do a small CPC version sometime.  A small lil sidequest sorta thing.  And this game is influenced by a couple of CPC and Amiga titles (small elements of games such as Switchblade and Turrican II) as well as the obvious console influence.

jamon (Level 8 Marshal) at 5/4/2008 1:45:23 AM
more i look at it i more like it - reminds me on days with CPC and Amiga!

You have to be able to see the rocks clearly so you know exactly where you can move.  Only purely background stuff needs to be fairly low contrast.  Try viewing any of the screenshots at it's proper resolution and you'll see it's easy to see the sprites anyways, and will even more so when the game is running as they animate and move about.

The violet rocks are actually my least favorite color scheme, it's only done like that for a slightly darker atmosphere when progressing further down the caverns.

zi-double (Level 8 Guerrilla) at 5/3/2008 7:36:06 AM
very nice work ...

what I think when see in first time: the colours of rocks look very well, but with that light colours /I talk for yellow/ have  big contrast and sprites are like part of background ... maybe if rocks are with a bit low contrast colours than will be better, because than player will be watch sprites and elements for play easy.

This problem is only when have yellow rocks, because in little sprites have yellow colours - in violet area they look best ...

It looks very oldschoolish. Just love that style.

DJD (Level 4 Button Man) at 5/1/2008 8:18:28 PM
Man I've never been so excited about a gm wip, probably since harry rpg. This has enormous potential and it is only heightened by your awesome edgy graphics. You've got a knack for this nes/snes style. God damn, I just can't stop staring at it.

vedsten (Level 1 Rookie) at 5/1/2008 5:41:24 AM
Great, great stuff

Stickman (Level 4 Deputy) at 5/1/2008 2:36:13 AM
I just noticed that it says "Press start" in the corner of the screen which means:

2 PLAYER MODE!

Great stuff!!! So when do you reckon we'll get to play the first level?

Naufr4g0 (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/30/2008 7:24:27 AM
I'm waiting for this game for 2 years!
I like very much your retro-styled graphics and I hope you can complete soon  this game and the other "in progress" projects.
I'm studying programming languages (as Java and C++) only to write retro-styled games. :)
I love them very much. Maybe 'cause I'm a nostalgic 30 years old guy?

Wolverine (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 4/30/2008 7:24:13 AM
Those are just overlays just to remind ya that yer underwater in some of the mazes as they get quite dark since I'm not really using backgrounds when underwater.  Looks better when yer actually in those water areas and the player sprite is switched for a blue-ish variant (or green depending on the water color used in that section).

sharprm (Level 1 Rookie) at 4/30/2008 7:17:10 AM
I like that Pink :) The blue rocks next to the water tiles seem a bit strange to me but I guess you know what u r doing.

Marina (Level 3 Private Eye) at 4/30/2008 7:06:41 AM
Really good, this kind of things make me remember about the old games, i miss them a lot... -__- i have a good memories about that years.
