(optional title: no dwarves allowed)

The dwarf is pissed and angry that he's not allowed to go into the tavern to have his beer(s). Yes, it's racism against dwarves and the tavern, as the name implies, only allows folks with long ears to enter (such as gnomes and elves). The old gnome coming out of the tavern is already a bit drunk, so he has the courage to give the angry dwarf "the finger".

Thanks to pixelblink, Pixel_Outlaw and M.E. for their encouraging words and for sharing their thoughts in the wip thread.

update Jul 27th 2008:
Changed the palette. Made the darkest blue full black, tweaked the other blues, made the grays more warm and the orange more yellow.

Thanks for the advice buloght. I'll try and play around with the palette a bit.

edit: done. Hope I got what you meant.

Hey dennis, I really love the characters and scene, really cool! I agree with Darth. To me the problem is that you have black (darkest color) and then the blue ranges are too light and close to one another and too far away from the black making it slightly washed out. So I'd want more colors towards the darker range (spread the blues out more). I'm not very good at explaining things, I hope you get what I mean :)

sapphira83: Thanks, I would like to know though what it is that's wrong about it, so I can learn from it.

Darth Mandarb: Damn, and I tried with this piece to be more courageous with the contrasts than I usually am (it looked ok on my TFT but on my blurry CRT it looks over-aa'd in some places (viewing it at 2x zoom it's ok though)).
Yes the sign alternates between English and German (even though a more literal translation of "Zum Lachenden Langohr" would be "To The Laughing Longear" and the other way around "The Laughing Longear" would directly translate to "Das Lachende Langohr")).

it's a little washed out (lacking contrast) but I like still like it!  Does the sign say the same thing (just in a different language) when it changes?
