Wow, after a while of pixeling here's what I have for Dex's running animation. Sort of inspired by Ben2theedge in a way I guess, the head turning and stuff.

saboteur got a point. the idea behind this bumpness is the same behind the movement of the head -wich I still don't understand why people keep doing it. humans just dont walk/run that way. never :P- The idea is to emphasise the feeling of movement, that the kid is actually using his legs to move his body foward. For that he needs an amount of energy that eventually boost him fowards-upwards for a limited amount of time.. Running isn't just a series of controlled fall, is also a series of controlled jumps. there's a point where both feet are suspended in the air. and that point is what your sprite needs, or should represent also. or else, is more like a powerwalk rather than running.
First off, love the character and the stuff you've done for your game so far! It's great work, and fun to see it progressing!
One thing your sprite is missing, however, is weight. The motions are perfect, but there's no "oomph" in the landing. I'll try crack off an edit in a few minutes.
