Zelda, while taking a swim in Lake Hylia, finds a cursed necklace and puts it on, unknowing of what will happen next. The neckless suddenly starts glowing, relaxing Zelda while her legs come together and grow gills and fins.

I agree with Opacus, the fundamentals are more important that textures and other details. I know detail is pretty much the point of pixel art but, you can only focus on the details if the base isn't solid. Also this piece has waaay to many things that need to be cleaned up, other than the anatomy. There are stray pixels everywhere. A perfect example of which is that single black pixel in the center of the canvas. Also some things could be smoothened, e.g. her back doesn't follow that rule that you see on the first page of every tutorial to keep lines like that one pixel width, and to avoid the "L" shape. Great potential is seen here, you just need to clean it up.
Textures are something that can help give a sprite a bit more interesting, make it look better. But if the fundamentals are flawed it ain't gonna do much good. It's a bit like tuning cars. Even if you try to make you Vauxhall look better by adding nice stuff to it, it aint never gonna be a Lamborghini. Adam Atomic once said something that remembers me of this: A rough gem is worth alot more then polished garbage. Now I'm certainly not trying to impy that this is garbage, it isn't, it has alot of potential. But see, without good fundamentals, whatever you do to cover it up, it will never be as good as it can be. And that's why I think textures are less important the fundamentals such as anatomy and volumes etc.
I disagree with opacus, i think texures are just as important as any other element of spriting. Dont spend less time with textures, just more with other fundamentals. Great textures
i must agree with opacus, textures are amazing, but there's anatomical issues, like how she has no forehead...
you may also want to clean it up a bit... the edges are too sketchy, specially near the end of its tail... and what are the golden pixels on her bikini top?
Your texturing skills are pretty good, and it seems that you focused nearly completely focused on that. Maybe you overdid the textures a bit too. My point is though; I think you should spend less time on the texture, and more time studying fundamentals that are more important. Such as anatomy.
