Nice tutorial, however I think the steps you made between smiley 4 and smiley 5 are to large to understand for someone new in this. How about one step inbetween that?
I think the final smiley turned out pretty good...but outer AA is not generally a good idea...unless it will *always* be used on one colour surface.
However, as a tutorial, I think it needs some improvement. For example the leap between 6 and 7 is huge. Getting the facial features and emotion to shine through is by far one of the most important things to do on a smiley, yet this is hardly shown. Whereas, showing the user how to fill in a circle with some colours takes up a large proportion of the tutorial.
Yes I know you were going for the minimal tutorial, where there are no words and just images. But if you really wanted to make a tutorial to actually help people with this I suggest you try to give more of an explanation as to what the steps involve, how to do them, why things are done in a particular way etc...
careful with your anti lasing. If you look the 4th ball is much more clean then the last ball. Less in this case is better, but not bad try keep on pixelin'
