I'd never heard of dithering until very recently and, in fact, I never realized there were other people who did pixel art other than sprites and such until recently! If I was breaking rules it was only because I never knew they existed!
and yes, pixel-lines of multiple pixels in depth are important in my larger works to keep the thickness of the lines the right porportion to the picture.
I like the way you "break the barriers" of pixel art, so to speak. You seem to like using outlines multiple pixels in width, and you also use smooth shading with little or no dithering, which not many people do.
