I guess some of you guys thought I ripped this or applied textures to it or whatever, so I wanted to show you all my technique for handling this piece. I do all my work in MSpaint, and you can see that I started the shading with blocky paintbrush shapes to get down where the colors will go. Then I would go in and shade that with a bunch of mini circles to take up space, you can see this especially on the wall to our left. I was inspired greatly by this style of blending bunches of colours into this rich texture-eqsue type stlye, but I can see why you might think it wasn't my work. I'm not really so used to dithering like crazy to exaust my colours, and I think the main problem is, that I was just careless here.

Yeah I mean it's just another type of skill, like mixing colours and blending them in unique ways to create interesting textures. Basically I made this when I was inspired by and artist for rm2k3 named theo who made very realistic urban resources by mixing weird colours. I wanted to capture that gritty almost painting texture and master it myself. This was before I knew the standards of pixel art, I was doing it for fun no holds bard. The pixels are still hand placed it's not like I got crazy mixing brushes or stuff, just straight paint.
I disagree with the under 32 colour bit. I realize that less colours and crazy work shows more skill but I don't want to limit myself at the same time. And it makes you guilty for making colours when you need them. I would say as long as it's under 256 colours then it's good, but probably because I'm used to making rm2k3 graphs. Even 256 colours can be challenging to meet, but I am working on reducing colours and using the same colours in a new way to reduce the count which is the good that comes from the limit.
I still like it when there are under 32 colors. It shows more planning in the piece, and not just grabbing a random color and placing it where you think it will fit. I think what sets pixel art apart from all other art is the fact that you place each pixel and color by hand. I know people like to argue and say there are no rules for art, but there are standards..people do know what is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and 350+ colors is not it.
Don't think I'm jumping on the "you ripped this" bandwagon, I can see you did this on your own..but you see what I'm getting at. Hopefully...
Yeah I think I messed up where the table meets the wall to the left. And you're supposed to see the guy's feet like standing up but he would be too tall if I did that so I blurred his feet with everyone else's.
