IMO it would look much better if the strong black lines on the skin were a dark skin color, the black is too harsh.

Using a red outline is not the right way to make the head stand out.
Here is an example of how it could look with a brown outline:

And if you don't like that then I suggest you try to use other ways to make it stand out. Try some stuff and post it in the WIP section so people can help you out.

Yes, it is mirrored. I'll be posting up the the animation that is supposed to go with this.
If I use a dark brown, then the outline will just blend in with the black space BG. I want the face to really pop out.

It looks mirrored. you should make it so both sides look different. I agree with Jalonso on the outline, maybe you should try a very dark brown outline?

How is the red outline weird?
Well maybe it is weird. You might have to see it in motion to understand why it is red, but I could change to another color.
