More practice with colors, I s'pose.

Made for a light background, but it should work on a dark one.

Alright, big edit based on Arachne's suggestions. Changed the ear shape, increased contrast, made the pants puffier to exaggerate the fact that they are, in fact, supposed to be puffy, etc.

Increased the length of his left foot by a bit, but not much, seeing as something that is digitigrade literally walks on its toes, not the whole foot. And the toes of most digitigrade animals aren't terribly long.

Now you can actually tell that he has a white spot over his eye.

Any more critique is welcome.

Awesome! I like this one very much! His clothes, his pose, the colors, they fit great together!

They are. he's supposed to be wearing pretty puffy pants. The ears are pointing away from the head, not toward the viewer, although I suppose I should edit the shape to reflect that more.

I like the increased contrast in your palette. I look into editing things when I get home. At the moment I'm on a pretty crappy computer. I doubt I'll change the legs terribly much, likely not so much as the edit you made. The intention is to create legs that are somewhere between digitigrade and plantigrade, although the pants hide it. And i refuse to unpuffify the pants.

Anyway, thanks for the crits overall. You'll probably see an edit within two hours or so. Feel free to continue critique then.

Edit: Alright, I'm home, I've had a close-up look at your edit. I'm going to be keeping the eyes as I have them currently (they look fairly squinty in the edit). The tail will stay in its original position as well. I don't moving it to the side specifically to make it more visible to the viewer.

I like the shape of his right boot in my version a bit better, I'll probably edit the left. (As I said, since the ears are facing back, I'll move their position as you suggested, and edit the shape to reflect that.

Also, i like how you highlighted the edges of some of his clothing. I'll probably do some of that.

Looking forward to a follow-up crit. Thanks.

It's cute, but it looks like you have some trouble with canine legs. The colors look a bit washed out, and I don't think you need that many colors for the fur since it's such a small area. I think using only the blue ramp for the fur instead of mixing greens in would help to separate it from the outfit. Are the ears meant to be turned back? If so, I think they'd be much closer to the head. If not, I think you should show the inside of the ears to make them read a bit better.

Don't mind the boots, I just wanted to show the shape of the legs and give him a more balanced pose. http://www.retinaleclipse.com/kaisetoedit.gif

Hope that'll show you what I mean.

I don't say it often but I think this is *cute* with the ears sticking out and its tail - I'm in love with the palette and the contrast in the colors and good job on the directional lighting. The grass is simple but works realyl well with him

Why, thank you very much. Especially considering it was something I started randomly in school.
