I think it looks pretty cool! Its more than 12 hours of work compressed in little more than 5 minutes.

Introducing Chester Wiggleboom, the protagonist of my current game project! He's the usual badass dude with an added cephalopodic twist.
Its the splash screen of a game I'm putting together with game maker. You might have seen the bad guys for the game already, like the large, blue and red creepy jellyfish-like thingy I put up earlier this month (or was it last month I dunno).
I love oceanic scenery, its rad, colorful and fun to draw.

As for the drawing itself, I could probably remove a few redundant colors there, but not for now, I got more of these to do!

Ill be doing lots of stuff for that game soon enough, and I'll probably upload all of their WIP animations to youtube like this one (hinthint subscribe to my channel) and you'll see em before everyone else, whoo!)

Next up on my to-do list is the title screen. It'll be way lighter in design, pretty much just a close up of Chester's angry face.

The detail and depth on that oceanography is outstanding. At first glance it looked like you had spliced actual imagery of coral and such. definitely your forte.

At first I thought this was "pretty good" but after watching the video, it's effin' awesome.

Is this in the Weekly Showcase? Because it deserves to be. I can not see any real flaws that stand out.

Doppleganger:
Thats some very in-depth critique, thanks!
For what the octopus is holding, its supposed to be a bazooka. I always had big problems with texturing and lighting with metals and diverse surfaces. Usually I just think, "okay its metal lets make it glossy." and call it a day. I should try to sketch some metallic things from life or something to get a better hang of it.
About the pillar lacking depth, I think the problem is with the coral as a whole, I pretty much threw shadows and lighting out the window when working on it. Its almost all shaded individually, like not using the context of where it is situated in the picture at all. I think the pillar had much more depth to it before I added the coral.

Packrat: yeah haha, I just never know what part to choose for the 80*80 preview so I pick a few parts and make them blink. Maybe its not such a good idea!

sharprm: Sometimes I do line art first and sometimes I don't, I still cant figure out which of the two ways of working works best for me. I think that when I draw line art first I restrain myself too much and my characters end up too cramped.

This is some of my favorite work from you. At least out of your non-animated work.

Usually I find your style to be a little too messy and scratchy looking for pixel art, but this one is a lot cleaner. The good thing about it is that your individual style isn't sacrificed in the process.

My favorite part would definitely be the octopus, although the container that he's holding fails to represent the textures that it most likely is made of. I'm guessing that the tube is meant to be glass and the cap of it is metal, however it appears to me that the tube is thick plastic with a concrete cap. The perspective of the cap is also a little off. Nonetheless, the octopus is very well done.

The other complaint would be the large pillar in the background. The way it is shaded and the way the coral interacts with it removes almost all sense of depth that it might have on an individual level. There're a few lightsource inconsistencies throughout the image that kind of flatten and confuse it as a whole.

Anyways, overall really great work from you! I'd like to see more stuff from you like that octopus. 5/7 +1 for the octopus... so, 6/7

Very good looking piece now that I finally gave in and came to see what it is. Gotta admit, the thumbnail almost kept me away, it was way too blinky. :/ I'm glad I came tho!

Wow! It's always interesting to me to see how other artist go about working.

Very nice piece by the by!

Looks good. Go graphics gale. One thing - maybe you should draw the line art first and use coloring later. I can't argue with your end result but i think it is quicker and easier because you are only messing around with two colors.

You work very clean!
I love it :)
