The sky reminds me of Van Gogh's "Starry Night". It somehow seems to consist of many many lines. Do you know, what I mean? Is it just me seeing this in your picture? Anyways, even without an actual Van Gogh reference this one is BRILLIANT.

The composition and the colors make this look like a real painting! It does not really feel like pixel art (there is no doubt it is!) but that does not make this less beautiful!
I really like the mood of this. The palette really makes this scene. However, I think it could be polished more, and the big empty space could have been filled with something more interesting. Right now, the trees serve as a kind of frame around the least interesting part.
Landscapes are not easy to draw convincingly, so I'll mention a few details I think could help make it look more natural. Trees, and especially young trees, have gaps in the foliage which let light through to the other side of their crown, so don't think of the foliage purely as a solid object. You would have clusters of brighter leaves mixed with darker ones in the dark areas you now have, and gaps where you could see the sky. Leaves lit from behind are also very bright. Looking at some reference might help. Another thing is that clouds reflect a lot of light and disperses it, so I don't think you would have as prominent shadows as you have now. The more clouds, the fuzzier and brighter the shadows will be.
In any case, I think it's good work. I hope we'll get to see more atmospheric pieces like this in the future.
Wonderful! Quite an improvement, really. Also great colors and all. Only crit is that the dithered bit doesn't really sit with the style of the rest of the pic.
This reminds me a lot of Frank Sauer, the guy who did loading screens for Agony by Psygnosis. Here are some: http://madeinpixel.free.fr/Images/Galeries/agony.jpg http://www.mobygames.com/images/i/21/07/61957.png http://www.mobygames.com/images/i/20/05/62005.png
