You nailed the shape of the monster. I recognized it instantly.
The water bothers me, though. The ripples ring around the monster in your version, yet in the actual version the ripples do not originate from the monster. This wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't make the water look flat. There doesn't seem to be any perspective on the surface. It's not a huge deal, just something to think about.

the neck doesn't seem long enough and the head seems just a tad large, but otherwise pretty much on the money
