i like the piece as it is - big improvement.

A more detailed background would be a nice edition, or a little something more than a plain colour later down the track

But at the same time it does to job of conveying the message that this animal is being naughty and doing what its not usually suppose to :P lol and im pretty sure that was the point behind the challenge *shrugs* I like it anyway because its a nice piece of work :)

next time make sure to dispose of the bikini altogether lol.

I'll also wrap a few things up - I'm ok with a debate here, just means that (1) I create thought provoking pieces of artwork and (2) it makes it look more popular.  /whistles

The whole background issue was something I just never pictured when I thought about this. The main idea was the situation and the expression, rather than a fancy scene. The focus is thus on the Panda; as mentioned, I hadn't pixeled in ages, still getting used to the laptop so I didn't want to make anything really big, especially for a 'weekly' challenge.
Plus, there's a bikini in it, most of you should be contempt at that.

@Dusty: It seems like we lost this one. The majority seems to think that this works better like this and I doubt they change their opinion any time soon. They have better opinions are loudest with their opinions and can't understand what we think or just don't agree with it. I agree with you that it needs something, even if only something small.

@Everyone else: I'm not trying to add oil to fire so don't start arguing with me here in in private. I see your points but I still stick to my opinion and you can't change it no matter how hard you try, just like we can't change yours.

Err, what? My critique was very constructive. An nonconstructive critique would be, "it sucks". Just because it doesn't deal with the technicalities doesn't mean it isn't constructive. What was so vehement about my comment? It's not like I was insulting him.

your comment in this case is 100% subjective. if you've never seen art where the character is isolated on a solid color background to give focus to the character, well, that might make the abscence of a background a copout for YOU personally, but don't be ignorant and sling around universal "advice" based on ignorance rather than knowledge.

As are most critiques. Also, regardless of my knowledge of art, I can still make critiques. You don't need to be an artist to critique an artist. You assume I don't know about backgrounds and such though... so you're a little on the ignorant side. Did I ever say NO PICTURES SHOULD HAVE SINGLE BGCOLORS? No, I said this piece would look 10x better with a well-done background. I stick by that comment too.

with that said, some of the comments you leave here are usually good points, just be consistent with objectivity and if you're going to critique people, dont be blatantly and confidently ignorant.. is all I'm saying.

I still don't see how you have any place to call me ignorant because I don't think a plain BGcolor does this picture justice. Regardless, I have every right to critique people regardless of how ignorant you think I am.

The clean BG works for me in telling the story better than any clutter could.

So is this, like, the opposite of bestiality? Just messin' around. I would have liked something more/cleaner to define the split between the black part of the side and of the back, though, but this is great. I like funny pixelart.

A spotlike would suggest you forget about your surroundings. I'm not saying it needs some detailed background... even a simple background with 1 color bamboo around him could help a lot.

I like the absense of a background as well, it suggests you forget everything around you when caught like that

I would still put a table lamp or something next to him because you need something to light the magazine when you are reading the article about global warming doing things that make your eyes pop when you're caught

A 'proper' background ain't necessary and would just be distracting.  It's great as it is.  Fantastic expression on the face :)

As for BGcolor vs background... for something like this, which is trying to portray a scene, just a plain BGcolor is a copout. Sure, grey may look good against the panda, but a nicely done background would look 10x better.

Expression is priceless. The set-up reminds me a lot of  iSTVAN's 'Cow' piece for some reason.

Oh, and does anyone else find it odd he's looking at a magazine full of women?

Simple, Clean, Good AA, and it's a Panda, Nuff' said

yea right, because when something is on a solid color bg and doesnt have enough bells and whistles for somebody it "needs so much more"... fuck that. it's one of your best imo, I love how the shapes and lines are really clean yet the AA is nearly impeccable too. I personally like the dark grey bg - perfect contrast for the panda

Make some kind of background for it :S The idea is good and it seems pretty good so far but it needs much more still...
