Very nice sprites! I like them, they are very funny! However the eyes you gave them: I can only see them if I zoom in a lot. But it doesn't matter that much, they look better without eyes :)

About the background: I think they look better in a more neutral background than in a black or a white one. Example: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7857/marioshu5.png
